Are you thinking of fitting a sound unit to it?  :-)

The howl of three V12s would be wholly awesome!

Yup, 2 and 1 at present. Should be enough for the moment %)

Good choice - I think that will work the best  :-))

Now that WOULD be interesting but to get the full effect the speakers and battery would weigh more than the rest of the boat %%

You would have a bit more space for a sound system in your 1/12 scale model - but not enough to make any sound that could rival the roar of three V12 engines!  %)

Tony,

I have been watching your build.
If you are interested in a very flexible and compact sound system that can be powered off your main battery pack (best with a regulator)

Scroll down the page to my build on the Ladye X.   You can hear the sounds I used.
I use a great little sound card, and if you cruise to their website you can find the sound library.
The one for boats has quite a selection and you get access to all of them.

The company is Model Sounds Inc.  -  They are Canadian, and have great support.
http://www.modelsoundsinc.com/soundsystems.php

Just a thought.

Thanks Jim,
I think both Kit and Bob Zooma are getting a bit optimistic. It's not the card but a decent speaker and additional battery capacity to generate the output sound.Just to give an idea of the parameters, the most likely candidate for the next build and the one where Bob might get his wish of a 1:12 version, is 37 inches long with a displacement of 6lbs to carry 4 (Yes 4!) motors, shafts and batteries so...........?Keep Safe :-)) Tony

No real problem in getting a big enough speaker, use the system that is used in model aircraft. These use transducers not speakers, this would fit to the hull and use the hull itself as the actual speaker. As for the engine noise there are V12 merlin engine sounds available.

I tend to be optimistic (when possible of course...) but if we hadn't suggested the idea you may not have been thinking about it.

I run an old JJC sound unit in my open rear cockpit version 33" Swordsman with a hefty speaker mounted under said rear deck,
no need for extra batteries - power is tapped off the main motor nicads - easy peasy.

AS A MATTER OF (POSSIBLE) INTEREST ONLY AND WITHOUT LIABILITY, I have a concoction from David at Modelsounds in Canada which might be interesting. It's a doubling up of a Marauder twin V8 Diesel, similar to the ones used on the target boat.

If anyone wants to hear it, please drop me an e-mail and I'll copy to you for comment %)

It sounds very good Tony.

I especially like the delay in starting the second motor and the sound of them running together.

This has a lot of potential for use in a model powerboat.

Right Chaps,
Ultima Dea is in lockdown at present due to it being a tad too cold to start spraying, so I've had time to decide of the next non-Fairey.
I've decided not to go for the 4 engine Gianni Cinquanta. It's too pretty, like a pointy Riva.
So, I've managed to concoct what I believe are reasonably fair lines for Jackie S, from 1965 ish and will build at 1:12 to keep Bob Zooma happy! You can see she was a bit different and was, I suppose, an early example of involuntary crowd-funding in that she was owned and run by Dr Emil Savundra and thus paid for by the motorists, me included, who had insurance with Fire, Auto and Marine!

Nice one Tony!

Jackie S deserves her own thread on Mayhem  :-))

A good choice, and at 1/12 scale it will make a nice size model at 35" long which will be easy to transport and store as well as being big enough to cope with any weather it is likely to encounter on your local boating lake (or ours when you bring it to Southport O0 )

...........and it will have a Union jack on it!

Just to keep you posted, Ultima Dea is still in lockdown waiting for painting weather so Jackie S is proceeding, albeit gently!
I came to conclusion that the shape needs a sort of turtle construction, with the works in the lower half and the top half (Turtle deck?) completely removeable. The pics show the initial frame and the later one shows the side skins fitted and the top half screwed to the lower half with the upper profiles in place ready for planking with 3mm balsa. The two halves will only be separated once the whole thing is stable.I'm leaving the bottom skins off for the moment so that I can get works framework done.

It's a very interesting shape, that's for sure. Going to have a presence to it on the water I think.

Jackie S is a brilliant choice for a powerboat model and it looks like you are making good progress with it.

The pictures you have of the real thing shows why you found it so irresistible to make a model of it, and the boats unique lines very well.

It looks like you will soon have a whole fleet of non-Fairey powerboats !

Nice work!

Check out February 1967 Model Boats magazine 'Jackie S' is illustrated on the cover,
and if memory serves an ED diesel powered model features inside, unfortunately it's one magazine I don't have amongst my many hundreds !

Dr Emil Savundra hmm? have you seen the famous Sir David Frost interview from the 60's !!

Just to prove that I've not been wasting my time %) First one Ultima Dea and the second is Jackie S. Lots of bits to do yet but I'm fairly pleased with how they've gone. Totally outside my comfort zone and lots of help from Bob Zooma.

You've made a nice job of those Tony.

Good to see some builds coming along as it's gone pretty quiet lately (mine included) from the many being posted about in previous months.

Brilliant work Tony - I am so pleased that we helped to convert you to powerboats  :-))

UD is looking good - but you know I have a really soft spot for Jackie S and she is looking even more appealing!

Keep up the good work - and let me know what your next project will be - something obscure, interesting,...... and non-Fairey I suspect!  O0

Stay safe,

Bob.
