34" Precedent Fairey Huntsman 31
« on: December 06, 2020, 05:50:55 pm »

Evening folks,

I recently won a 34" Precedent Fairey Huntsman 31 aft cabin on a well know auction site.

There are a couple of repairs to do, because I had it posted and the cabin got slightly damaged on delivery, nothing too drastic though thankfully. It's a risk you take when you have things posted isn't it.

To me, the cabin looks too tall. The 47" Huntsman I have, the cabin is lower and sleeker.
What do the resident Fairey experts think on this?

Yes, the cabin certainly does look too tall. What are all those skegs underneath at the stern for I wonder?

I thought so too.
I'm hoping other 34" Huntsman owners on here will give their opinion too.

As for the skegs, I really don't know. A bit strange for them to be on there.

Hi Will

Definitely too tall. The builder has made the top of the cabins and cockpit parallel to the deck whereas they should curve down towards the front and rear windows, particularly the front. Trouble is you'd have to rebuild the whole of the superstructure if you wanted to rectify it.

I think those skegs are to make it look as though it's got twin rudders - won't help with turning!

Is the hull GRP?  If so run it as it is for a bit and then, use the hull as a future project!!  ;)

Those were my thoughts too Chris.  I'm not really sure how to tackle it quite yet, but will have to do something about it for sure.

True, it could have been to give that impression and as you say, definitely won't help other than in a straight line.

The hull is timber. I get where you were heading with the future project idea though  ok2

I'm going to have to have a good think about what and how to do with this one.

If the hull was a little longer, more beamy, it would probably carry off the superstructure better, although not accurately.

Does anyone know how to delete a topic?

Admin, if you read this, please can you delete this whole topic as it appears to have slipped my mind that I had already started this one and have now started another with more pictures on it. Apologies  :embarrassed:

Just alter the top to make it right. then take those struts off.
i would say been made as a static model and rest on them....

A weekend! At the speed I work!  {-)

Seriously though, I completely agree with what you are saying.
I plan on converting this one from aft cabin to aft cockpit when I make the new cabin for it.
My other Precedent Huntsman 31 will remain aft cabin as it's been built more accurately than this one and the cabin is in pretty good condition.
