My HMS Solebay - built spring 2019
« on: December 10, 2020, 05:52:32 pm »

I realise that I never posted any pics of a build I completed last year - the classic Deans Marine HMS Solebay kit - a very old version of the kit that was quite challenging to build.          I made it as rugged as possible for tough lake-duty without bits dropping off randomly.

The pics are of its first sail on the calm waters of the Luton sea.   :-))

Thanks - It was more about looking nice than absolute technical accuracy - all my models also have a skull & crossbones on them too..     O0

That is a very beautiful model of a gorgeous looking class of destroyers, too good to be floated in water.

Thanks - but she was built to be used - moving gun turrets, rotating radar, twin 385 motors and hardware-mixed ESCs.     Even the bilge keels are brass L-strips bolted on for ruggedness.    :-))

Brilliant OTW photo which captures the very essence of a Battle class destroyer, really handsome ships, lovely model.

All the very best with your chemo treatment.

Cheers,

Mike

Cheers Mike - I was very pleased with the way she turned out - they're are a lovely ship design.

thanks for the best wishes - all seems ok this time around - not surprising after they drained 12 litres of fluid from me - I feel so much 'emptier'.   :embarrassed:

Hi Plastic,,   Solebay was the first warship model I built after retiring in 2010 IMO the best looking class of Destroyer ever built and yours does them credit, sadly I sold mine about three years ago, one of those things you regret that seemed right at the time.  :((

Cheers Stan   :-))

Unfortunately, Solebay and my Liberty ship were the last two off my slipway - everything else went to LMBC because I don't have the time or strength to get involved with big builds any more.

I'm concentrating on churning out Airfix models now - mostly 1/72 jets kits that I'm revisiting from my childhood like a Vigilante, Prowler, Eagle, Buccaneer, Canberra, Harrier and Victor so far.

Hi Joe - Thanks - I understand how you feel - after putting in so much effort it feels odd to sell them - but they go on to fund the next build rather than collecting dust or damage as they age and deteriorate.
