Hi Harry,

Sorry your thread has been a little hi-jacked and drifted off-subject from your excellent Sea Raven build, but I think it started with Leaky seeing a resemblance to the Beachcomber and me thinking that the Beachcomber was a bit like a sleek Vivacity etc... and as is often the case one thing led to another - it was very interesting - but to get back to your build:-

What have you got planned for the square hatch opening in the cabin roof?

A cabin roof light, ventilator,  or a space for a plug-in mast perhaps?

Looking forward to seeing it on the water!

Bob.

Hi Zooma

Just a standard roof light hatch.

Changed my colour ideas !!!

Light blue cabin with white inside the outer cabin and mid blue sides.

White for the hull bottom.

You can get a moderator to remove the Vivacity stuff and keep the thread on track with the Raven build.

I thought it was quite interesting really Andy - could you start a Vivacity thread instead and get your content moved into it?

There has been some chat about the Vivacity on the other forums recently so it could be of some interest to the Mayhem as well!

I am considering a half-ish scale version, I need to hunt out the plans if I still have them. Will start another thread when the time comes.

Hi I have just been reading this thread and the deck finishing.  I usually scrape the deck with a Stanley knife blade held in some electicians tape.  Then a thinned varnish put on with a finger pad of lint free cotton material.  It dries quickly and then have another scrape until satisfied.  Varnishing the deck with a finger pad prevents brush marks and several thin coats look better anyway,
Bit late now but an interesting build.

Hi All
Well I cracked on to adding a bit of colour to the boat, but sourcing the rudder bits has hit a dead end .

I have made the rudder tube, but the stopping point is the flat brass for the rudder !!!

That looks really nice Harry, can you use a commercial rudder and throw away the plastic mounting tube ?

As long as your tube is M5 it will fit and if you buy the XL size you will have enough blade to re-shape if you want to change it?

Don't know how I missed this one but, having read through it, I'm astounded by the quality of it all  :o , the planking in particular is simply beautiful.
Watching from here on in.  :-)

Hi All
Well after making a nice boat stand for the Smit Nederland.

The stand for the boat has been greatly modified !!!

I was not happy it !!!!

So after a lot of chop chop and a short hair cut at the back.

It turned out OK!!!

First coat of vanish on and the second tonight after it cools down !!!

High density foam with stick on back added after the second coat dries( the same stuff used on the base on my sander).

30C is a bit warm in the shed !!!

I was wondering what the dark area was on the bottom of the rudder, then realised it is a reflection of your fingers because it is so polished.
