RHIB HULL in Aluminium - advice on hull construction
« on: January 08, 2021, 01:23:31 pm »

Hi All, back on the Lockdown projects again!!
This time challenging myself to build a RHIB with aluminium hull and plastic pipes for the air tubes.
Trying to work out the best way to create the hull (1 piece net or single pieces bonded or low temp ally weld together).
Anyone done one, looking for simple hull with or without a vertical keel. Any tips on transferring hull shape to flat sheet??
Cheers in advance

You could try building a 'plug' out of foamboard the conventional way (with frames and skins) and then once it's all shaped nicely, take the skins off and trace them onto your aluminum.  Hopefully someone on here knows where to get good drawings for a RHIB hull to start with.

I'm interested in tiny versions of regular size things.

Hi, did you take a look at that link? His build is really coming along nicely.

Make a hollow plug with a strong lid and using thin Aluminium, use a jet washer or grease gun to inflate the space behind to push the aluminium into the plug. - Primitive hydroforming.

Hi , yes thanks The pictures are amazing. Great build. By the time I got around to finding my aluminium sheet I realised I'd buried it in the garage after a sort out / tidy up ha ha! I've gone back to the plank on frame for this one which is coming along but nowhere near the class of the one you referred to. Maybe next time with the ally!!
