well lets make, or attempt to, make Nord Icelandia a bit weatherworn after returning from a voyage in the stormy waters of the southern ocean

alteration to the stern light - addition of screens to block light directly to the sides

I've also boxed in the work light that lights up the back deck

Ghost,
If that is the anchor light it should be raised and an all-round light.

Sorry with this info.

there will be an all round light fixture fitted to the top of the mast towards project end as I want for that a couple of dead LEDs or bulbs for that, some other dummy lights will get fitted to represent the lights that would be needed for other signals like draught constraimed etc

well the all round sternlight upper pole is done, just need its lower foundation pole to be done now, this will, like the antennas be made from a piece of antenna straw or similar material with a piece of rod shoved down it as an anchor.  once the foundation rod is made, i can adjust the main pievce so it clears the A-frame arc and when A-frame in its stowed position the light can be seen.

I do believe that you only require two anchor lights

main mast and fore mast this will show in what direction the vessel is laying at while at anchor as well as denote the size of the vessel.

R,

I could be wrong though

thats what I thaught but i've been told an all round stern light also.  i know about the bow light and mast head light, but according to bob, a sternlight also.

this has probably come about with the advent of north sea gas, and so permanent ships at anchor with a long aft deck behind the mast, and the new super container ships having a lot of ship BEHIND the superstructure island.  (Emma Maersk being one such example)

I worked some large well deckers and none had a stern anchor light

As I said I could be wrong (where are all the skippers when you want one) and to look at a pair of lights in the total dark one is higher than the other I know then that there is a ship at anchor with that the anchor would be closest to the [LOWEST LIGHT] and that would give me indication as to direction of the vessels "lay" IE: if the higher light is to the right or to the left but if there are three lights which is the bow? as the stern would be lower than that of the main mast.

Just 38 years of working on the water.

1 aft and 1 on the mast.
That is all Newton has.

oh cheers Bob.

The anchor lights will be dummy lights, as will the second set of lights on her mast, (she should have 3 rows of red lights, and a row of whites so either "I am restricted in my ability to manouvre" - (red over white over red) can be displayed OR "I am restricted by my draught" (red over red over red), added to that some additional forward facing lights

question:

by tow greater than 200m, is that reffering to a surface tow? (ie ship pulling ship), as the tow on Nord Icelandia would extend 800ft VERTICALLY, and would not be a surface tow

When I worked on a survey ship the term "tow" was used for the sonar *fish* we towed behind us at just over 2/3 of a mile away from the ship the vessel showed signals for restricted ability to maneuver. Is that any help.

And we required a safe area 1.5 mile from us. (that was some times over ruled depending on reasons) life got hectic then  :embarrassed:

If you are towing (be it surface or semi or submerged) I would say that you should continue with the signals you are displaying, after all other vessels in the area will not know where your tow is and you could not safely alter course quickly without loosing some control of where the tow was. IMO.

But saying that lets have fun any way

another detail needed for Nord Icelandia is an IMO (international maritime organisation) number, and if any american out there knows if the state codes are needed on DOMESTIC boats only, or ALL boats that are registered in the USA.  Nord Icelandia is to be registered in Dutch Harbor, Alaska ("AK" i think for alaska).

therefore should the stern read:

NORD  ICELANDIA
DUTCH HARBOR
IMO * *** *** **

or

NORD  ICELANDIA
DUTCH HARBOR, AK
IMO * *** *** **
any ideas?

and I think the IMO number is also needed atop the wheelhouse on her roof in a contrasting colour
