just need to get the radar sorted out now, all I need for that is a piece of material 1 inch long, and a cocktail stick, along with a piece of tube.  dont see the point of buying a full length of styrene for that!

with the superstructure being nothing more complicated than an ABS box, that is why i was able to progress so well, having said that, IF the hull was to be built as well, I'd probably be working on it still!! lol.

Thanks Dave, sails well(ish) too :)

The top of the superstructure now has a roof at the right height, added to that, her radar is now mounted to its mast and is powered up.

this is Mr Lobster, an RTR sub, 3" long, based on the jastec shinkai 6500, it is pretty close to the required scale.  the real one can dive to 6500m! thats a tad on the deep side, and one is on the way to me from cornwall.  add a cradle and it will be sitting on the back of the ship.  then its a case of try and get the frame working if it can be done at all

well the sub arrived today :) now I have to find a way of getting a hook installed on the sub without the risk of making her instantly plummet to the lake bed.  a sub for llanberis she isnt, 20" max diving depth, (I presume because of the radio inside her).

she dives by means of a thrust motor which is either on or off, and manouvres by means of a propeller at the back and a rotary agitator at the bow.  a plug in her side means she can be charged, with charging being done off the tranmitter, after poweing down to the pool bottom, she can then cruise around as she surfaces.  If i can get the A-frame working the ship could then retrieve the sub.  That is going to requre some studying.

this is Mr Lobster in the tank, photo taken for a mini review for www.rcgroups.com.

The sub itself has an internal battery, not big either, enough for 2 mins of running.  movement is by 3 motors, a vertical thruster to send her down, and up under power, though she will surface on her own if the motor stops.  A bow mounted thruster, and a regular albeit small propeller at the stern to propel her forwards.

She is a near-scale model of the Jamstec Shinkai 6500, the only thing that isn't too accurate is the length, she is about 10mm too short, however im not going to moan about that.  Sitting on the deck of Nord Icelandia, she looks lost, though not a surprise, those 2 man mini subs are not big

Hi Mark

Wow she is really looking great O0 O0. When you get the A frame sorted to launch the sub that will really be something to see in action. To bad you cant upgrade the battery inside the sub for a longer dive time. How are you going about the A frame????

the A frame is something I have yet to think about, I'll probably look at that over the comming year, space in there is tight so a winch and spring system may be used

when i do get the frame sorted out, the ship will have to use FLAT CALM water to launch and retrive the sub, after christmas im going to order more styrene i think to work on the A-frame again

I was thinking how hard it would be to launch it in any type of rough water.

Yeah thats true, wold have to have some sort of locater to ensure that the hook goes on properly. Or you would have to have a recovery boat with a scoop on standby.

I was thinking of a V shaped bar on the sub, with a hook hanging off the A-frame, so as the sub comes in, the hool will latch onto the bar and then haul her up.

I have to be very careful as well, she only weighs 31grams

But don't forget that the sub would probably be out of juice and you are relying on the movement of the mother ship or the a frame to get it into position. You would have to be very precise.

with the model having no stern thruster, picking the sub up will be fun, not impossible though, a-frame wont have any latteral movement either, just a swing arc.
