I can imagine that the hook and V would be larger than the sub.

the V will be as wide as the sub at its base going to a point and if its stable enough will be fixed to the sub amidships the hook will be on the A-frame, so in theory the hook will grab the V and so enable the sub to be hoiked aboard and placed on her cradle

The hook will have to have some weight in it to stop it being just pushed aside or blown in the wind.

hi there i am building seabex 1 and was thinking of using on e of those rtr model sub with her. I came across the same problem as you are in counting . All so worth conceding is while the sub is on deck she is using batter power but not at lot. 1 For the a frame use an electromagnet you don't have to dock as accurate as you would have to if you were using a hook. 2 as for power on the boat. If you can get in to the sub put a reed switch normally closed. Then put a normal magnet on the deck of the boat. SO when the sub is on deck reed switch open no power . When the a frame lifts the sub the reed switch clears the magnet on the deck and the sub powers up. obviously if you are using a electromagnet to pick the sub up the cold be a problem put trial and error should sort that. I found this photo of a model non power sub might be of some use. john

the main issue with the toy shinkai 6500 is the delecate bouyancy, it cant take much additional weight

all you would need for the electro magnet is a metal washer on the top of the sub.

cos918, I placed a 5p coin in the top of the sub in the bath, and it went STRAIGHT DOWN, a plastic inverted V is going to be the trick, with a hookl on the A-frame.  a washer would probably send it down

it does however give me the possibility of tethering the sub with a winch on the A-frame if I can bury an action motor in there

Thats going to be hard to control as well, You really have a lot to work out with this little sub. But when you sort it out it will be fantastic.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas.

tethered it wont be so bad, lower it to set depth and drive it from there,

Looks a great little thing there but I have a question,

If and WHEN the onboard battery gives out what happens? will it sink or float?

I see that there could be a small recovery problem if the sub sinks when the battery give up unless you like diving ;D

I do believe that it only sinks by means of the motor actually going and when it stops it floats to the surface. However that brings me to another point.

Mark:
With the balance so fine will that little extra weight from the V make its ability to float to the top a little harder??? Also do the lights draw much current if so disconeting them might give you more sale time??????????

the sub is positively bouyant, and so floats on the surface when not under any kind of power, and to keep her down, the vertical axis motor has to be regularly blipped.  In the you tube vid, you will see her starting to rise the second the momentum generated by the dive thruster stops, which is about an inch of depth dived after the motors stop

To turn off the LED's may save me a second or two in the dive, they pulll naff all current, as regards the weight of the V, it is for that reason that I may physically tether her, so if she goes down I can retrive her by winching her back aboard, very much like a surface controlled ROV such as the Scorpio is brought back, that way it doesn't matter how heavy she is, want to go down, winch out, want to go up, winch in cable.

a great feature that I'd like to see on her is proportional control on her dive motor, that way she can be set to run at a constant depth rather than like a rollercoaster.

I see what you mean now about tethering, sort of like an umbilical cord. Yes that would work well.

yup :) im sure a small winch could be found from somewhere (yes actionkit :D that means you :D ).

doing it that way will probably mean that I could dive at any time and not need the conroller with me for the sub, however it will also give me the option if i wanted to of going free-running at exhibitions that I can see the pool bottom, and more importantly reach the pool bottom

No problem then, It should not take much to find a motor, however you will need some sort of tether that looks like that thick black cable O0 O0

hi does the sub have a bow thruster as it turned very quickly. As for putting more weigth on the sub . If say your A frame weight say 20grams you put on blue foam that gives you 20 grams of lift. A bit of playing around and you should find the right neutral buoyancy . john
