It isn't a Dreamliner!  :o

A Dreamliner is a 787 and this is the much older 777 which is a completely different aircraft.

The problem is with a type of engine (Pratt & Whitney PW4000-112) that was only chose by United, a couple of Japanese Carriers and a Korean Airline. As I understand it no other 777's or any other type of aircraft have these engines.

The flames coming out of the engine suggests that they hadn't shut off the fuel to the engine. That can't be right as it is about the first thing that they do.

Rolls Royce have apparently had similar problems with the Trent 1000 engines that are /were commonly fitted to large jets. It got bad enough that at least one airline re-engined their fleet to get away from them. The groundings have cost Rolls Royce £100's of millions but you don't see it reported much.

They think the flames are just from a damaged oil system - they are only just tiny flames.
