Coming out of lockdown
« on: February 23, 2021, 09:00:45 pm »

I was just trying to work out how our gradual exit from lockdown will affect model boating activities.

This is my understanding:

Step 1

8th March
Government travel advice - Stay at home
My interpretation - Not allowed to go to the lake or boating pond.
Government advice - Exercise and recreation outdoors with household or one other person
My interpretation - This seems to be a odds with the stay at home advice but I guess that recreation does not include sailing model boats.

March 29th

Government advice - Rule of 6 or two househholds outdoors

My interpretation - You can socialise with up to 6 friends at the lakeside.

Government advice - Outdoor sport and leisure activities reopen.
My interpretation - Lakes would be open but you will still be restricted by the rule of 6.

Government advice -outdoor sport allowed.
My interpretation - Could you class a competitive regatta as a sport?

Government advice - Minimum travel permitted.
My interpretation - You can go to your local lake (how local is local?)

Step 2 not before 12th April

Government advice - All retail and personal care reopens
My interpretation - I can go to the model shop and also finally get my hair cut.

Step 3 not before 17th May

Government advice - Max 30 people outdoors.
My interpretation - Smaller club meetings outdoors are allowed.

Government advice - Outdoor events allowed (up to 4000 people).
My interpretation - Would a large regatta or outdoor model show be allowed?

Step 4 not before the 21st June

Government advice - No restrictions
My interpretation - Yippee!

I may have got it completely wrong. What do others think?

You probably won't get your hair cut at a model shop!

But I think you have put your finger on in in one respect in that what constitutes 'local'. Obviously the Government doesn't want people travelling 100 miles or more on day excursions from one side of the country to the other but would a one hour drive be reasonable? This is likely to come up when it comes to visiting beaches as nowhere in the UK is more than 70 miles from the coast.

HI Fastelectrics you have got it spot on.  Our club has a large membership and  trying to make out a rota to allow 6 members to sail would be a nightmare. May 17 looks the best option and of course all of this is speculation we hope not and we hope finally in June life can return  to some sort of normality. On a footnote  many people think you can have multiple groups of six say3 groups 18 people how I read it one group of six

If we have a spring like last year then the rule of six will be splendid.

What you stated makes sense to me, and as long as the variants don't cause us trouble then the June date is reasonable.

The vaccines should nullify the effect of KENTVID, and may reduce the effect of the other VIDs along with the other treatments discovered last year.

Hullo FE .....I see, you in UK have a 1m and a 2m, social distancing <*< requirement....

We have a variation on this in Australia [mandated by each of our individual State/Terotory Governments], as 1.5m Rule, however members of the one House hold do not need to abide by the 1.5m Rule  %%

So, commencing this Sunday the 28th, we [Illawarra Live Steamers] have our first restricted House Hold groups of 6 persons each on 4 sets of trains for a 30 minute run........

There are 8 x 30 minute time slots during the day.......we have achieved a Registered COVID-19 Safety Plan.......that's easy......the planning, the manning, the signage etc etc.....is over the top and our Members in yellow are responsible for keeping each individual groups 1.5m away from other groups

So again, do you have a Family or House Hold Group Rule?

Completely random rules that make no logical sense or biological sense - all designed to keep you locked in your house talking about 'could' and 'might' but with no real clarity but plenty of 'gotcha' back to full lockdown clauses.       Like testing school children twice a week - that'll keep us locked down until 2030.

I'm not going to get drawn into the whole political / conspiracy stuff on here - but I'm surprised most are unable to judge life's risks.    Are you ever going to shake someone's hand again?       Will you cross the road if someone is walking towards you without their compliance muzzle?

Herr Boris didn't announce a way out of lockdown - he just told you you are locked down for another 3 months - or more - and people think that's good?

Sadly due to Covid the world is never going to be same again for a long time this is something we will all have to get used to. People who blatantly flout the rules or twist them to suite themselves to just delay when life can return to something like normal. Covid is mutating all the time so the battle will be ongoing for a while

Personally, I would cross the road if I thought it would reduce risk. BUT risk is not a personal issue is it? I've done the personal risk bit, from life experiences and work experiences. I try not to think of just me now. Family, friends, pets and even one or two fellow model boaters. How, if atall, does it have any effect on them so I'll assess the effort to reduce the risk and do what I feel right.

It's impossible to discuss this subject rationally any more - so many people are doing nothing but watching daily coronavirus fear-porn briefings that they've lost all sense of perspective - and as most of those are in the 70+ age-group, they are 100% bought into the 'instant death if you dare step outside' propaganda.

They are afraid of dying but are happy to give up their lives? ? ?     It's a year now - remember the 2-week lockdown to 'save' the NHS?

Remember last spring / summer where you could go shopping without your muzzle - and yet there were no piles of dead Sainsbury's and Tescos workers!

People are not able to think for themselves any more - there's a couple of hundred countries out there so the next 'XXXX' variant is all that needed for the government to lock you in your houses again.    And you all are demanding stricter rules?     %)     Mandatory lynchings for not washing your hands?       Shoot on sight for not wearing your compliance muzzle?    :o

BTW - I'm in the highest possible risk group - no immune system, multiple pulmonary embolisms in both lungs, I'm on steroids and chemo.    You people really don't know the value of the life and freedom you are all happily throwing away.     %)

Also - average age of people 'dying' of corona = 82.     Average life expectancy for the UK = 81.      Look up some data and facts.

It's about risk assessment and how likely you are to give it to someone else not just your risk of acquiring it.

Discussing/arguing about it here will have zero impact on the real world. Do what you think is safe without putting others at risk if you might be a carrier without symptoms.

Breaking gov guidelines does not help IMHO

In the original post - MARCH 29th is incorrect - the rule of 6 refers to 6 people from two households adding up to 6 i.e.
1-5, 2-4, 3-3.

If you look around here, you wouldn't think its a lockdown, plenty of cars on the road going about their business, people going to work at the usual times - so much for the 'STAY AT HOME' RULE.

The government of any party in power is damned if they do one thing and damned if they do the opposite by the opposing party and the journalists, it makes my blood boil when you here the phrase 'there are calls for etc etc etc' or 'questions are being asked why etc', who are asking these questions - more than likely just the journalists, trying to get a reaction, and them shouting out a stupid question as the politician walks past and then some backbencher MP's wants the government to speed up the get out - idiots want another lockdown ?, these people need deselecting / naming and shaming for the idiots they are. Thanks for the clarification on the rule of 6 Warspite.  I hope that we now have an effective plan to start relaxing the rules safely and can return to enjoy our favourite hobby without any restrictions by mid-summer.  :-))

I feel obliged to join the fray on coming out of lockdown.  I have to disagree with Warspite’s interpretation of the Rule of 6 guideline.  I have reviewed the document published by the Cabinet Office on 22 February 2021 entitled Guidance COVID 19 Response - Spring 2021.  This is a comprehensive review of the COVID situation and the road map out of lock down.

The Roadmap Steps are at Part 3. This sets out what is to happen as each step evolves.  The Step 1 guidance is set out in Figure 9 showing 2 parts the first commencing on 8 March including Schools, colleges, outdoor recreation, funerals, weddings etc.  The second part is to commence on 29 March and an extract of the wording is as follows:
‘From 29 March there is an opportunity for some further limited changes as part of Step 1.........”  It goes on to state “People will be able to meet outside in groups up to a maximum of 6 people (the Rule of 6) OR with one other household, though people from different households will still need to socially distance from each other. ............”

As I read the above it means clubs should be able to recommence sailing meetings providing no more than 6 members are present at any one time and social distancing rules are observed.  I have generated COVID 19 Secure Guidelines for my club sailing meetings along with a COVID 19 Risk Assessment to mitigate the COVID risk to as low as is reasonably practicable.  Additionally, given the membership age profile most will have had at least the first inoculation and some the second thereby providing a further COVID 19 risk mitigation in meeting to sail.

It is worthy of note that we held twice weekly sailing meetings, weather permitting, from June to December 2020 without any issues, problems or infections.  I see no reason why that should not continue from 29 March onward.

Having played model boats since the mid 1970's, I've experience in boating over many years and in many situations....
Like sailing on the flooded river Trent in the pub car park, when under water.
Now back in the 1970's and early Eighties , on a  number of occasions we used to sail in the summer evenings on the canals and walk the tow paths with the boats, covered a fair distance as well, joking apart , it was good fun, remember it fondly.
I see no reason why you cold not take exercise on the tow path whilst sailing your boat along side you....
My take only, good luck to everyone going forward. Please see this as a bit of light hearted banter, in a very serious situation
Good luck and stay safe

And now Herr Boris is confirming covid passports - remember those were 'conspiracy theories' just last week.    You WILL comply with whatever the government want to do to you or inject into you every 6 months or you will be locked out of society - no access to services, transport or food or money..

People starting to wake up yet?   The Great Reset.

Plastic

I really don’t understand why people such as yourself are against this sort of thing- I have to carry an ID every where I go and if it’s the same with passports for leaving the country as well- you wouldn’t suggest not having one of those as it proves your nationality and all the privileges that go with it.
Having a vaccine passport is probably the easiest way forward to ensure that you are up to date with the jab and if you can’t have the jab for whatever reason there will probably be a waiver attached to say so. The problem is that as a country we are used to having so many freedoms saying that I don’t need to prove anything such as identity/etc that it actually goes against the good of the country at times.
I have worked for the military for over 17 years and none of what is suggested by the government doesn’t bother me in the slightest- I carry various IDs and passes to allow access to areas I need all the time and it hasn’t affected my life at all. Any one who suggests that there are ‘tracking devices’ in the vaccines are barking mad as there are far easier ways of knowing where you are and what you are doing and what you like- it’s called social media!
Anyway count yourself lucky- I think you said you were offered a jab (I know you said that you said no at the moment due to your treatment which is common sense) but someone in my position will be one of the last to be vaccinated and more than likely to be more subject to the vaccine passport than you. If I’m not bothered then you shouldn’t be.
It’s all an opinion of course but it’s not the end of the world in my eyes.

It is against every human rights act to force medical procedures on a population - and this 'passport to life' is a way to coerce the millions into total submission.    Or the state will force you into submission.         I'm disappointed.

I am sorry this is how you feel but like I said earlier Covid is her to stay and like or not we are have get used things changing not just in the uk but the world. When you use your phone or laptop do you think about what information is been gathered about you so why all the fuss over a vaccine passport. In terms of a jab every 6 months do people kick up a fuss about the flu jab I think not. It is about time we all started to smell the coffee Covid is a killer it does not respect your age sex or nationally and it will be lurking around all over the world.
