« on: March 07, 2021, 08:28:05 pm »

good evening everyone

i have been a member on here for quite some time and have started several logs but never taken them to completion, i will update them and/or have them deleted by the grown ups

i bought this kit in 2008 and built up the hull and then put it on the shelf of doom for many years, basically i bought the Caldercraft Victory and that took priority

last June i finished the St Nectan by Moutfleet and restarted this for a few months until another project came along and then another

in 2008 she looked like this

August last year

and now

Well, looks like this is going to be quite a handsome model - to build to completion does place demands on your time - block off the 'shelf of doom' (love that description) and store away your other part-builds.

Hope you can keep this thread going - Cheers!

Ray.

Wow, that's a bonny boat. Quite a lot of hours/days/months of work must have gone into that one O0

Thanks for sharing :-))

Gobsmacked!

Lovely job on the trawler and that's quite a short build time in my view O0

(I'm not renowned for my speed, but get there eventually)

Good evening everyone

looked long and hard at the build, i seem to be haunted by the wanting to get on with her or cutting my loses and going for a large scale clipper, im not bored with her, just not 100% happy with the way she looks, even if its far better than first time around

my options to convert her to something different, are limited/ non existant, so i will continue with her but deviate away from the norm and do it my way,

first choice is to bin the buff colour, i have been using Admiralty paints yellow ochre this will now be olive green,

lol i dont suppose it will make me very popular with the purists, but they aint seen any of my builds

this is my experimenting with the upper air ports in part of the new colours

all the upper portholes and airports have now been fitted, and the recessed rivets have been replaced, i hope to have all the upper works in green tomorrow, then decide if i like it or not, otherwise i will rip it all off and restart

im struggling tonight getting the balcony panels to fit, - yes i mixed them up in error (schoolboy error) the instructions didnt do anything to help the situation, although im not blaming them

Hiya Kevin, lots of shiny brasswork there - very pleasing to the eye. Also good to see the butt system you've used on the deck planking. Nice work  :-))

had thought of priming all the brass white, but with everything else to be added i think leaving it brass will work,

Sir, you are a master of the craft.  Stunning work.  I am amazed.  Question, are your large models in cases and if so, where to you put them.  I am running out of room in my little home.  Its starting to look like a maritime museum.  Just curious.  Have always wanted to build that model of the Vespucci ....... Wow, what a project.  Tks for sharing.  Best regards from across the pond.  Dennis

non of my builds are  covered, and therefore open to the dust, But i will be building a dedicated display area this summer, the reason for not having done so far, is that i have only been building for 10 years and now have a few builds to justify it
The Victory and St Nectan are  the first to go in

Well, I applaud your work.  With only 10 yrs into it, I'm certain you will produce a large fleet as time moves along.  My largest cased model is of an English Frigate, which has a place of honor in our living room.  Pic attached.  Dennis

very nice indeed

i dont use my garage any more, not even for boat building so the intention is to use an area, 3.5mx1.5mxheight of sloping roof, and glaze a stud wall,
