Thank you Hama. I may well be the only one who has ever noticed this, the benefit of a cross hair laser.
As a static display it would likely go unnoticed but on the water it is obvious to me.

I must say that I was never impressed or motivated by this model. It was only that Stan was selling it at an attractive price  O0  I never really thought I would build it but now I'm into it the appeal is growing as more detail is added.
The saving has largely paid for the prop shaft, propeller, motor and ESC

If we had a like tab I would give myself one  {-)

There is lots of missing detail in this kit but I will fit some without becoming obsessive as there are so many points in time where things were changed.

There are numerous vents around the cabin at deck level. For these I will use 1.5mm brass rod and split pins as pipe brackets.
The cabin rear too is zero in detail but I will do a little there also.

I'm no fan of thanks buttons. I have the politeness to say well done rather than press a button! So here it is. Actually I had to remove a tenner and stuff it in my jar -I lost a personal book you'd have had the glass cloth on a couple of days before.  Nevertheless an amazing quick build again!!

I was intrigued with the conundrum of the profile of the deck house. I couldn't see much difference on pics if the USS Hoga. I note it also has nav lights in different positions in different pics -which one will you go for?  It seems another model with just a bit of small effort would bring it to life.  I'm not a fan of Americana but the ST tugs have some character.

You can blame the good weather and two days I had to spend on garden maintenance  {-)  Also two MOT's and vehicle repairs.

Nav lights will be on the outside centre of the roof railings.

Thank you  :-))

P.S. I meant to inform that the propeller will fit without removing the rudder. Loosening the tiller grub screw allows the rudder to turn a full 90 and thus room to fit the prop.

It made a big difference to the appearance, well done :-))
Hama

I agree. - that's the little difference between a good model and a great model.  Such amazing attention to detail  :-))

Thanks again Mark  :-))  like tab is better aint it buddy  O0

I felt the need to tick the railings off today but I've used stainless steel instead of brass as it won't bend accidentally in use.

Various bits n bobs

Space dearth of detail in the kit adorned with left over scrap wood.

Doors for above from scrap and hinges to all doors from styrene rod.

More bits.
I had to seek advice with these and found it on billing facebook group eventually.
First I had to open out the holes to 1.5mm using smaller bits first

Ha yes that looks about right to me. I found pics probably the same as you of them on the wheelhouse, either side the deckhouse below and none at all which is what I guess Mr Billings looked at. All on Hoga, probably all different times! There's a good build of an American yard tug on rcgroups I've been watching though it's gone quiet recently. Americana is not my thing but in the tugs seems you can go as little or as much as you like and there's a pic to prove it either way.

Next conundrum which Derek Warner might pick-up on. Black back-boards or coloured? And I don't know for US tugs that era!

LED's or grain of rice bulbs -only joking. I don't do working lights either!

PS where did you get the polystyrene ladders from?  Been looking for a pack for ages but they've all been out of stock.

Some of the pictures of nav boards look like they’re a lash up improv and they all seem to be grey.
The ladders are a billing fitting F307/J included in the kit.
You might find them at CMB

These measure 7.5mm x 55mm

I cannot find those on google but nearest alternative =

Ah no worries , thought they were slaters ones. Forgot they might be in the kit.  I have plenty just a shortage of the polystyrene ones but no bother, they come in handy sometimes.

classic US Navy statement:

if it doesn't move, paint it gray.  If it does move, salute it.

 O0  dib dib

The nav light boxes need to remain parallel to the waterline, hence why they look so crude in pictures.

A visit to MSL for these click and collect.

Some more to the cabin rear

Hi, great model, I have started the same, but after a 40 year gap in model making.  Please can you list here or send to me privately, all the additional parts you bought to make it RC.

A bit more aft detail this afternoon.
A prominent item is this ventilator.

I kept whittling away at it until the size was more reasonable.

Thinking ahead I don't want to get hung up on painting so I will be going for the all grey version with black highlights.

I hope to sort the windows and frames this weekend.

I have never encountered a boat that has had so many alterations modifications back and forth to fit whatever task it was given. I could spend many weeks messing with it and still never be right.
So apart from the few additions, I am doing the minimum in paint similar to how it sits in the outdoor museum today.
Otherwise it will go back on a shelf unfinished or prevent me getting on with bigger fish  O0

This picture was taken during builders trials in 1941. This also most accurately reflects the Billing kit, even the bollards a midships are missing that were fitted later.
