Thank you Stephen  :-)

My delivery arrived from eBay Spain

The ladders in the kit are definitely too small

So I have used 1:48 scale Plastruct ladders and mounted them with 0.8mm piano wire.

I'm happy with the battery  :-))
I'm not experienced with Deans connectors but so far my findings are CRAP! push them fully together and they lose contact.
Next job is to cut that off.

Hmmm...   That's odd.  I use nothing but Deans and have never had that problem.  Quite stiff to pull apart, but that's a different issue, and a function of the normally excellent electrical contact.  Difficult to tell exactly from the photo but yours appears to be slightly smaller than a normal Deans fitting - perhaps the plastic isn't rigid enough to maintain good pressure against the springs in the contacts.  But I guess you don't need the hassle of a long-winded experiment to find the best Deans connectors if you already are happy with - what do you use? XT60?

All my deans connectors are overly tight, usually enough to be a bit of a pain in the ass to get them together they're so tight. All mine are a very dark red / burgundy though -yours look much "redder" in the pic and it looks like it has dimples from the moulds that I've not got? Chinese copy perhaps?

A google search identified issue between deans connectors of different manufacture.
XT60 are made by numerous sources also but I've not encountered a loss of continuity between any of this type. 12 awg is at the limit of what is doable on an XT60 so I changed it.
If a connector is very tight I use an extension cable on the ESC that allows disconnection clear of the model so not to inadvertently cause damage.

Having looked for another battery I have concluded that this was a give away price, sad it was the last one. Anything similar is considerably more expensive and most are lower capacity for around £35 upwards.

EDIT

The car speed controllers have a very short cable as standard so it's a no brainer to put an extension on it.

Hi Andy!
Look great on the water.....

1. Motor & ESC combination?

2. Slow speed control?

3. How noisy?

4. What did you have for breakfast?   %)

She’s a sweetie and I’m calling her the Stan tug  {-)

I’ve just fixed the ballast inside the rudder compartment instead of the bag of lead shot on the deck  :-)) I’m
pretty sure she’s good for a couple of hours on that battery  O0
As with the Riva I’ve limited throttle output on the transmitter but still at full speed she has clout

The new kit today has been reduced in price at CMB £155 delivered is a bargain

Not as good as £80 delivered by Stan  :}

Notably Riva and Stan use the same brushless motors which demonstrates how flexible they are for different jobs
Same ESC too

It’s all in the blog Martin.
Breakfast was a bacon sarnie  :-))

Thank you

Usual brushless 'while' on dry land, how about on water?

Good point Martin.
Better in the water with resistance  :-)  10/10

Brushless ESC responds to feedback which is far better when load is applied

Lobster boat
Boulogne etaples
Riva Aquarama
Hoga

All use similar motors and same esc
The differences are propeller sizes and battery voltages

28/30 28/36 brushless are more than adequate for a vast range of small to medium vessels whether fast or slow

So in the following years there may be other small details added but unlikely.
To finish off, the bag of lead shot on the stern in the pictures is now integrated into the fabric of the model.
