Fitting DRO to Proxxon 250e / PF230
« on: March 20, 2021, 02:58:23 pm »

Whilst the Lathe is fairly well made, if over priced somewhat.  I have been using it almost daily for 4 years without many problems, except one which is very very annoying and that is the slop that develops in the carriage handwheel. I am forever resetting the the free play level as per the manual and whilst a little free play is essential it soon reverts back to being unacceptable which affects the accuracy.

I have finally solved the problem altogether by fitting a single axis DRO, this also solved the horizontal problem when using the mill. No longer do I have to use the handwheel for reference as the digital display is far more accurate, also it's in the line of site, being just above and behind the chuck.

I have checked the accuracy against a Moore and Wright micrometer and the readings are exactly the same.

The installation was quite simple on the Proxxon and less than an hour to complete.

2 pictures showing the installation.
