Help needed
« on: June 14, 2021, 05:47:56 pm »

Hi all out there. I need some help with this flat bottom ship. It needs a new keel, but I am not sure what size or weight to make it. The ship Is all wood 4 ft 6 long 8 inches wide, and as you can see a lot of sail. There was a keel at some time because there are two holes in the base of the hull to take the bolts. And a keel box inside the hull. But I have no idea how to judge the weigh needed to keep the ship upright. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Looks like a barge. The Thames Barge Trust may be able to help or know somebody who can.

Thames Sailing Barges have a Facebook work Group...free to join, there are a number of models built.....ask as many questions as needed

The actual vessels do/did not have a single conventional keel, but used the twin side mounted retractable Lee Boards to assist in maintaining a righted attitude  %)  ....all rather complex to consider in a model I suspect

Try AMBO the Model Thames Barge group, my barge has three different weight Keels for different strength winds.
