Linkspan model ferries
« on: March 28, 2021, 02:07:56 pm »

good afternoon everyone

i am about 1/3 of the way into my Panart Amerigo Vespucci build and already planning my next one, im looking for a liner or cruise vessel but my options of larger than 1/200 are quite limited,

however i love the Linkspan Norland and it looks like that is what i shall go for

But where are all the build logs, i post in several forums and ones i have seen are not complete

can anyone point me in the right direction please

am hoping to purchase in May time uk possibly the Uk will be opening up again

I tend to do a lot of building at the weekends, then ponder what i have achieved during the week, then adapt, redo or accept the following weekend

Here's the link to the kit creators blog - mainly from page 5 onwards.

Cheers Kevin, there was some interest expressed by potential kit buyers but, I've not seen any build logs.
I stand to be corrected  %)

There are a few on Facebook primarily by Carl Barlow who has built a stunning extended version and Dave King has built a Falklands war version with helipads.
I’ve got one and will be restarting mine very soon- I’ve finished cutting out one side for all the cabin windows which are all laser cut items. The kit parts are stunning, the 3D printed fittings are brilliant, as is the Nickel Silver Etch work, and the plans are perhaps the most comprehensive set I’ve ever seen out side of the National Maritime Museum!
Well worth the money.

I’ll fetch it out for you and take some pictures of the contents- there is a lot! The hull is huge and very well moulded, and the instructions are extremely helpful. Linkspan definitely surpassed themselves with this kit.

Not everyone who buys a kit wants to do a build log as well. I have not bought a Linkspan model but I have discussed them with Carl Tunnicliffe the designer and manufacturer and been very impressed with them as Nick (RAFLaunches) says. Carl is an architect and has applied his design skills to the Linkspan range of ferries. I have seen a number of built examples at shows and they have been stunning models which perform really well. A bit too big for me though!

If you decide to go ahead I doubt very much if you will be disappointed.

They are a very well put together kit, I can definitely recommend them. Carl I am sure will give you any help you may need (he is also a member here)
I have seen some great examples of his finished kits, including ones with working bow and stern doors  :-))

thank you for comments,

i prefer larger scale builds, even though they are always statics,
intentions are to try a build something different each time
still room for many other builds, but maybe time will be against me
maybe the 1/48 trumpeter  sub next, even though spending 30 years in subs, i vowed never to build one

For your reference, this is just a small part of the kit so you can see the quality and an idea of the fittings.

thank you so very much

my silly question for today, is how is the superstructure made up, is it interlocked, or two straight edges at a set angle?

It’s interlocked I believe, the next kit Carl is developing certainly is (the Spirit of Free Enterprise)

Those bits all look all very familiar, I spent many hours aboard Norland and Norstar in the 80s going back and forth between UK and Holland. A lovely ship to sail on, and the best food I've ever eaten aboard ship.  :-))
