Tug breaking ice
« on: April 01, 2021, 08:17:42 pm »

At least in Finland we have seen attachable - passive - ice-breaking bows on tugs that thus can break reasonably thick ice - I'm guessing of the order of twenty centimetres (I don't know actually...).

This is a new one - Self-propelled ice-breaking bow that easily breaks 60 centimetres thick ice:

Picture from trials in an area of Finland that is notorious of their thick ice:

There is an article in Finnish for those that can ...

Now - wouldn't this be a cool one to build a model of!

Trial-and-error doesn't spell failure - right?

Interesting in how the engineering would harness the interface between the driver & the breaker module........

To insulate?  :-X or to bolt together firmly <*<
