  Hi I have had one of the cheap and cheerful 20 amp rated brushed ESC controllers ( 20 amp--dream on!) and it has worked fine for a number of years but is now playing uo. i have in my box another chinese job this time  bigger dream needed an 80 amp ESC which I want to put in the boat .Question. Will my forward reverse settings in the TX need to be reset? and can I expect the same measure of control through the range.thanks all.Rayna

Isn't it quickest to just put the controller in the model & try it?

If the motor starts the wrong way just swop the motor wipes over.

  Yes you are right there but my enquiry was more about information as to the same controllability with the massively high rated ESC at 80 amps compared with the current 20. In actual fact the amps drawn is likely less than 10.Rayna

If the same input end has been used (i.e. the same control circuit and program) then there will be no difference.  All that the front end does is tell the output end to switch on and off, likely the only difference is the use of higher current output devices.  I can't see any Chinese manufacturer spending good money redesigning something that works and already costs next to nothing.  Especially where copyright effectively doesn't exist.
That's a hypothesis, the only real way is to try it.

I agree with Malcolm.
The rating of the esc (amps) shouldn't make any difference but the design of it will. The only way to know is to try it.
