Smit Belgie
« on: April 06, 2021, 01:13:00 pm »

Has anyone out there converted a Porthgarth to a Smit?
I am keen to explore what people have done to their Belgie, eg open back or closed back?
On my carcass the deck is 6mm paxolin, the deck house is 3mm paxolin, the greenhouse as my wife calls it is a mixture of wood and paxolin.

i'm thinking of cutting out the whole of the rear deck for future access and to be able to convert it by changing decks

Any ideas or experience??
thanks in advance

Hi Barras
I have a Smit Nederland and if you are thinking on a large lift off deck like the Smit.
You need to have a waterproof seal around the lip because water will enter the hull.

Tank steering with twin motors and twin rudders, it with turn in it's own length.

Hi,
Yes the Nederland look like the Belgie.
I have the Rotterdam in 1:75 twin motors and a bow thruster.
This, whatever it turns out as is 1:32.
It will have twin motors like the Rotterdam but I was thinking of using a mixer??
I have never used a mixer and this is only my 2nd build so a bit of a novice.
Is it usual to have the rudders steering seperatly?

I was thinking of sealing the deck with vaseline (non permanent)

thanks for your coments
