Getting a new boiler certified.
« on: April 19, 2021, 10:10:55 am »

I have steam launch built some years ago and having recently joined Maidstone Cygnets club thought I might be fun to get it running again. Trouble is it needs a boiler, everything else is there, and I want to build it myself.  Now I've worked in engineering in all my working life as an instrument tech and have built a boiler in the past, tested it and used it in private, but of course this one is to be used in public.  So my problem is finding someone who is able to advise, test and certify, my club has no one. I live in Kent but am willing to travel if required, does any one out there know of someone?  Oh, and the boiler is to be below 3bar/litre, in fact more like 1bar/litre and feeding a twin cylinder oscillator.

Hi

I remember that a member of the Horsham & District Radio Controlled Model Club used to do the boiler testing, I have had a look in my old AMS club file's and I think it was John Hurrell that did the testing, or have a look at your local steam railway heritage they just may be able to help.

That's all right, Mr Ryan. My Morse is so rusty, I could be sending him dimensions on Playmate of the Month.

Many thanks for that, I have tried local clubs but to little avail.

Try Model Engineering clubs/Societies.
Anyone running steam trains have to have their boilers tested.
