No idea Rich
All I know is Billing approached me for help and I agreed.
I doubt my blog would help with a different model either

I wanted to this opportunity to thank Andy for providing such a detailed build log of the Mercantic.

I got a hold of the plans (both sheets) for the Mercantic a number of years ago but it didn't include templates of ribs, so I couldn't build the hull.  I searched for a while and eventually purchased a hull from a gentleman in Belgium.  Shortly after this I was able to get the templates.  Should have known that would happen!
Anyways, I now have the time to work on it given this pandemic we all find ourselves caught up in.  However, I haven't been able to get very much detailed information on the build, until now!
I have only build a couple of scale model boat kits, so my experience is limited and its been a struggle.   So this came at a great time!

Hi Taranis that is a very nice model.  Not surprised Billing are interested again.  Deans are selling quite a few merchant ships so there is a market.

I had a not not very happy experience with Graupner, the Gracia yacht had been forgotten (1957) and the plan number re-allocated.  It is still the best looking yacht kit ever.  I asked if they would like a spare set of plans that I had and they said yes, but that was just before they went pear shape.  They never even said thank you let alone pay for them!

However following your Mercantic  build with much interest.
Regards
Roy

Thank you all  :-)

More pictures in the gallery but a jump forwards here.
Someone posted a picture of the real funnel on Facebook. The emblems are on shields and not directly painted on. This I recently did on Stevn's Arctic so I thought hey ho give it a go.

Using a photocopy of the transfers I made the shields from styrene.

So a red funnel with a black cap and black shields with white decals.

Billing report they have next to nothing in hand regarding Mercantic so I'll be sending them everything I can.

I don't understand Billings conundrum unless it's lazyness or just waiting for someone to do work for them for gratis.

...Anyhow -looking great so far!  Am a bit surprised youre still buying lamps though with a lathe and mill at hand?  Woud have thought a 10" rod of the clear stuff would have made lots and lots for pennies, maybe with a few small brass washers added?

Hi Andy,

I've been trying to find the name of the shipping company that the Mercantic sailed for.  It's to track down their logo so I can create a set of decals for my build of the Mercantic.

Would you happen to have any information that might point me in the right direction?   So far I've drawn a blank in being able to find anything.
Seeing you at this step  brought this issue to mind.

[/size]Thanks for any help you can provide.
Gord.

P.S.
Looks like it won't be too long before it's in the water for trials!

The funnel kept giving me problems but got there in the end, only the top to paint black.

Railings painted today.

Steady away not rushing.

I'm painting the winches and motors in grey as black hides any definition and detail.
