Thanks Martin.

Not much doing with other things going on.

Anchor chain eyelets

These pulleys are no longer made in this fashion and some of the fixing points were badly soldered off centre.

Looking at other builders pictures I decided to follow suit and solder the lower lifting pulleys to the mast. This negated the need for resoldering the fixing eyes on two of the six.

Hi. I am building the Mercantic model. I bought this kit in 1964 and it is only now that I have time to build. I have finished  the hull and am working on the bridge. The photographs of your build which I have only recently discovered, will be of great help to me from now on. There is an item in the extras kit for the Mercantic that I am puzzled about. Is part number 115 and consists of a brass strip with two holes. It has been suggested to me that they may be the base of the bollards (part no 135) but the bollards do not fit the holes. I cannot find any reference to part no 115 in the drawings. Any help appreciated.

Hi
If the number of brass strips is half the number of bollards then yes they are the bollard bases. Some of mine were missing so I bought a full set of replacements from Cornwall model boats but without their bases because even today they are poorly made and ill fitting,
so I made my own.
Should be 8 strips and 16 bollards

115 it is
From experience I know the early bollards have larger diameter peg than todays. Todays bases are so badly made and the holes are too close together hence making them myself.

just read this entire thread - very informative and inspirational. I will be joining the queue waiting for the kit to be reissued.

I liked your references to Wyre Piddle. When my family was moving from Oxford to Manchester about 50 years ago, we would pass through there on the way north while house hunting. My dad would always say 'Wyre Piddle? Why not?'. Made me & my sister laugh, anyway.

Thank you Dave. Wyre Piddle and Pershore are to blame for me buying a stationary engine.
The rest from boats will be more rewarding when I re start.

Enjoy your Boulogne kit  O0

Thanks - the Boulogne E is on its way down south from Scotland as I type. Won't be able to jump straight into the build as I need to get my room sorted out and get the bench back in - had to take it all to the garage (no attached to the house, in a separate block, no electricity) while I got the room upstairs sorted out. At least the the pending arrival of the kit is giving me the motivation required to get everything ready again.

Hi Andy,

Any news on the Mercantic?  Knowing your enviable and stalwart approach on other builds it might be finished now?

Hope all else is well or good enough,

Rich

HI, the winch is a Graupner, sorry I do not have the catalogue details. The idea for using the winch came about from two Mercantic "nuts" in Sydney Aus because they were not happy with the kit one as it did not look right. Maybe if the "new" one ever surfaces they might update the fittings, good luck with your model. nemesis
