HELP - 3mm LED's

HELP can anybody help me as about 10yrs ago i bought some 3mm LED's
that were bi coloured an they worked a special way as they were 12v an when the currant ran through them one way they showed a white light an when the currant was revesed then they would show a red light as i used these  on my nimitz carrier an i cant look them up as i cannot remember the LED's name
SO CAN ANYBODY HELP ME ?

Hello Chris,

I have seen bi-colour leds with a common connection - often the positive line. And of course tri colour leds - but you could use RGBW addressable leds and a small microcontroller if you want animation.

As an aside what is you want to do with the leds- i.e. what are they going to light? - Do you need any animation with the lights? There may be a much more effective way of doing this....

HI  C-3PO WHAT i want to do is have just one L.E.D. an use them on my tiger as nomal white light or battle red an those LED that i had before had just two pins  an they worked by puttin a 12v charge through them for white light an then revesing the current they would show a battle red light
