Ton class minesweeper
« on: May 16, 2021, 08:08:42 pm »

I am interested in building a Ton Class Minesweeper as I served on H.M.S. BRERETON  M1113. Could anyone please advise me if there is a fibre glass hull available. I have noticed that mountfleet do one but don't know if they are still going. Also does anyone know of any build logs to help me.  Many thanks

An excellent article in an old Model Boats issue....good & extremely well detailed images of both a Ton Class vessel example and a model

For the life of me, I can establish a Publication Number or Model Boats Issue Number from the pages of the Magazine

Our Colin [Bishop] could help  %) as he is Guest Editor in the Magazine issue [which is not the issue Front Page shown here %% ]

Once upon a time there were plans, detailed plans, available. Cant remember who did them, sorry. Sirmar also did detail drawing sheets. Not a lot of use but if you do some google searching something might pop up. Also if you search on MBM for my posts, in the distant past, there are photos of mine and there may be a clue as to where I got my plans/information from.

PS, lovely ships, i did 2, at 2 different scales.

hi there,

These are Jecobin plans - and - for some reason the prices have gone through the roof.  Here's a link to the Company that is dealing with them now

Jecobin Plan, Drawing - HMS Nurton M1166 (1985) - TrinityAries Limited

I am sure also, that there is a build log on this forum for a Ton class mine sweeper.

HMS Brocklesby semi scratch build (modelboatmayhem.co.uk)

this may help

No, But the article from the picture you have posted looks exactly the same as the one in the September 1992 Vol 44 Issue 499. The pictures are from the Model Boats Plan Features Special 2012

Thanks TLB for clarifying where the MB article was located :o  for the benefit of the OP

Sorry for the rotated image, but we loose about 50% if I flip it

As mentioned, I cannot locate any reference to a Publication number or internal MB reference Notation...[apart from the image of the guest Editor Colin]

{:-{ Hi I have a 1:48 hull from the UK here in NZ which is probably not much use to you but also have the Jecobin plans -very detailed but in pieces. I tend to photo copy sections when I am building. This build has ended up like many of my builds only part finished. When I first saw a completed model of a "TON" I was fascinated by the colours that all the floats etc add to the grey hull. Very attractive to say the least. If I can help in anyway --let me know. I have only recently put it up for sale in NZ to local modellers but do not think there will be any uptake as too few real modellers out there now.  Hull appears to be vac moulded, quite neat.Rayna

I have recently acquired a 1/38 scale Ton class grp hull and nearly all scratch built, runs lovely on the water and looks good too.
Once i figure out the image input on here following the links will chuck some pics up  :-))
