La Louise - KBIO.

Around 1870 , in the extreme west of the Brittany, the transportation of people and the goods between Brest and Molène & Ouessant was made by locally built sloops of +/- 10 tonneaux.
Due to the strong sea currents , strong winds and vicious reefs the travel between the continent and these islands was particularly dangerous .
Sailing between The Conquet and Ouessant takes about 3 to 4 hours in good conditions.
It can take more than 12 H00 when the weather is bad.
26 April 1876 shipwreck of the St Jean = 23 drawns , almost women from Ouessant.
12 March 1877 . After 13 years of good service , the Marie-Hortense belonging to postal services sank with no survivors.
The 15th April 1877 her replacement sank also.
Modern times arising, it has been decided to build a steamer to replace the sailing ships. The first one gauged 26 tons propelled by a a 23 CV steam machine sailing up to 6 knots
Her Captain « Le père Miniou » was famous and has provided the service between the ilsands for 29 years.
Washed out by so many years fighting the sea, she was removed from service and let roten as a pontoon-livewell in the Brest’ harbor.
In tribute of this sloops and their sailors I thought that it worst to tell you their story before to present my
Louise whose the original was in service from 1881 to 1924!
Missing some details as usual as I am suffering of an endless and chronic stream of procrastination.
- 110 cm long , for a weight of 8 kg, she is propelled by an early Anton OS203- 3 cc and a 60 mm/3 blades propeller.
The boiler and the burner/gas tank are also from Anton’s begining.
I sailed this boat 3/4 times within 30 years and apart from the burner’s jet partially plugged through the years, the assy works perfectly : adding oil and steam and it makes my day !
Hope you like it.

Bonjour
Nice boat indeed, and (Yves, don't help) do you have any idea of the function of the small cabin in the port bow
