What is to become of Action Electronics?
« on: June 09, 2021, 09:40:33 am »

Following the very sad loss of Dave Milbourn I have been wondering what is to become of Action electronics and their frequently recommended servicable controllers and other components. I have no idea how big an operation it was to have any idea of the future.

Is the answer out there?

I think it was taken over by component shop a couple of years ago

As Phil said, they were bought by Component Shop about four or five years ago and Dave regularly helped them out at shows and with advice. Still going strong- just bought two action ESCs from them last week.

 :-))
I had thought that Dave Milbourn was still rather more hands on than that.

Dave was doing assembly and repairs on a part time basis but he wasn't running the ACTion part of the business. As far as I know the brand will continue.

OK, Here is the situation.
We (Component-Shop) bought Action Electronics from Dave & Liz Milbourn in 2012 as they wished to retire. For a couple of years afterwards, Dave helped us out at some of the shows & until last year was also helping out with some of the repairs & assembly. Basically when he sold Action to us he turned it back into a hobby, which occupied a few hours each week, rather than being full-time, something that Dave was much happier about. As far as the future of Action Electronics is concened, it is long & bright, there are many projects planned which you will see in the coming months. We are also in the process of updating many old favourites. For instance the switchers, these were traditionally supplied with a box that had to be cut for the wires to enter, they are now supplied in a custom 3D printed case with no cutting required. They can also now be used on a wide range of different receiver voltages, which was a limitation of the original units. The core electronics is still the same though, after all, why fix what isn't broken.
So there you have it, direct from the horse's mouth. Action Electronics is going strong & will continue for the forseeable future.

I shall miss Dave terribly, quite apart from the odd bits of work he did for us, he was a good friend. Truly, there was no-one quite like Dave.

Hello Iain, I guess it was not so clear for everyone what the tie-ins were before.   Appreciate the sad circumstances.  Just asking, there are quite a few things out of stock for a while, I presumed it was down to the shortage of chips or labour in the pandemic?  Any chance they'll be coming back on-line any time soon?  I think the twin 20A ESC / mixer is sorely missed at the moment.  Forgive me for asking here, it might be better in a different thread if you have presence here?
