Veritas miniature thumb plane
« on: June 14, 2021, 07:47:13 pm »

Had a problem with mine , the blade cap iron would not lock in position but kept coming loose. E-mailed veritas in Canada and within 1/2 hour had a reply saying replacement was in post from Lee Valley tools their UK agent , arrived today , great service. O0

It must be in here somewhere  :--

Ha Ha it was just hiding :--

Seems that the part has been modified , perhaps others have had the same problem, but full marks to Veritas for their response.

They're such fantastic little tools, aren't they!  I have the router plane, rabbet plane and the most used, a right-angle plane that I used to put square edges on styrene sheets after scribing and snapping them.

That right angle version sounds interesting - got a link to one?

In the UK most of the stuff appears to be stocked by axminster tools.

I had exactly the same problem with my plane too  %%   They also sent me a free replacement  :-))

I found out from them that the original problem was caused by me over tightening the blade  - I learnt my lesson

I had to put a washer under the cap iron screw. The design is flawed.
An Allen head screw and a better countersink is needed to stop it slipping.
Close but doesn’t get the gold award

Baldrick was quicker on the trigger with the link, but here's a pic of mine along with some other plane-like tools I have - it's tiny!  I haven't bothered with the miniature block planes as they're a little too small IMO.

You really can’t fault their service. I’ve got quite a few of their tools now and don’t regret a single purchase
