R/C Model Trucks in Rossendale
« on: June 26, 2021, 12:18:44 pm »

After a forced close down due to the Corona virus, the Rossendale Model Truck Club will be able to get started again at the end of July.

The club is for anyone that enjoys running and/or building r/c model trucks, and the club has quite a few Wedico model trucks as well as the more numerous Tamiya types and also has an interest in crawlers too.

The club has a road layout that includes a good size fly-over type of bridge that has been made for 1/14 and 1/16 scale model trucks, and also has a few crawler obstacles that can be brought up from the cellar and used too.

Club members also like to go "trailing" in the local woods and quarries with their off-road models on other days during the week, and like most good friendly clubs a lot of time is spent chatting and planning as well as sharing build and repair problems and solutions with each other.

This is nice small model club, located right on the end of the M66 motorway in Rawtenstall (so it is dead easy to find) and runs in a church hall on a Thursday evening between 7pm and 10 pm every week.

Hi zooma;
It's so nice to read your postings and look forward to your postings more to come.
Enjoy the RC cars operations indoors and/or outdoors as well as RC boats on the water,if the circumstances permit.! :-))
Especially,a long distance run with the RC car is so cheerful to do and enough to have us forgotten the pain of such long walk if the car is with us.!! O0 Anyhow healthy for both spiritually and physically.! O0

Hi Backerther,

It's nice to see that 'Trailing" (walking with your r/c truck) is popular in Japan.

What truck is that you are walking with?

I am guessing the Tamiya trucks are the most popular in your country?

Stay safe,

Bob.

Hi Bob;
RC crawlers are not so popular in Japan,instead RC buggies and racing cars are the most popular.
Tamiya does not seem to be interested in the Rc crawlers,but in the scale trucks and off-roaders as seen clearly in its
home-page.
Indeed, Tamiya products are most popular not only in RC cars but also in many other fields including related items like paints, tools, adhesives and so on,that you possibly may know...
The RC cars  I have currently are as follows;
1;Toyota FJ-cruiser 1/10 by Tamiya
2;Jeep Gladiator Rubicon 1/10 by Axial Racing of USA
3;Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 1/10 by Axial Racing of USA
4;Gen8 international Scout 2 1/10 by Redcat racing of USA
5;Toyota Hilux 1/10 by Tamiya that I used to have
6;Toyota Tundra 1/10 by Tamiya that I used to have

I always fancied having a go at this! I would love to build a Matador Logger and go driving through woodlands with it!

Looks great fun!

Hi;
Yes, it's so interesting and cheerful to drive a RC car/vehicle regardless of its kind,size and place under the blue sky.!! O0 ;) :-))
1/2/3;Landrover defender 110 at 1/12 scale
4/5/6/7/8; 1/16 Henglong US Army M1A2 Abrams tank heavily modified to be able to run over 4km even in early summer
on rough terrain. Cooling the motor is a serious theme to complete the run under the hot weather.
The tank is about over 5 kg in all.

A hard working machine needs to be nurtured! I like the additional cooling system. Is there room for a micro air chiller to reduce heat still further??!

No such room in this tank.
Instead I modified my tank to get outside air from the front and to get it out from the rear hatch for good ventilation as in the pics below.The blower fan powered by 12 V lipo is so powerful enough to cool the two motors intensively inhaling outside air
and exhaling it from the rear deck hatch.With this cooling system,the tank could run on the rough terrain in the early June of last year once. I myself got too hot rather than the tank and I did the trial run only once so far... {-) O0
1;This is a sub-air intake I opened.
2; This is a main air intake.
3/4/5;A large part was set for air intake under the hull front to take as much air as possible,but it is hardly seen from the front.
6/7/8;Rear ventilation hatch was also set to exhale the cooling air.  This part is also hardly seen when the turret faces the front.

Interesting ideas for airflow and flaps etc. That should save some hours of wear on otherwise overheated parts.  :-))

Is there much call for models of classic trucks like AECs Bedfords, Leylands etc from the fifties-seventies?

Wedico parts are a good choice for scratch building classic model trucks with as they are 1/12 scale and so easy to work at 1” to the foot.

They are overpriced since the new owners took over Wedico, but there are lots of good bargains on “the bay” that could be helpful.
