Marui Type-90 tank 1/24 has become much slower.
« on: July 11, 2021, 05:50:57 am »

Hi all;

The tank has become much slower in its motions than ever before,by replacing with another radio systems.
The tank used to be "good at" running too quickly unlike a real tank though the characteristic was rather unpopular among the tank owners still now on.While it was unable to run slower in the slowest shift as seen in the first video below,this speed has spoiled the scale realism terrifically.
So this time I challenged to improve notoriously quick motions to realize much scale like ones.

1;First video shows the tank before the improvement. Every motion is too quick and fast for a scale tank. {:-{ :((
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02vX7A8BCKQ&t=25s

2;Second video after improvement; I think it realistically improved in its motions, especially when turning! O0 ok2 %%
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0firvNlQwg&t=22s

3;Third video at the slowest movement;This kind of slow motions will make us feel a realistic impression for a model tank
   rather than quick moving tank.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guN-pmGoLLE&t=32s

Please enjoy and confirm the differences of the movements in the videos before and after. ;) ok2

This tank is famous for firing 6mm BB pellets as far as 25m powerfully.
The tank is the second latest version of tank of so called Japan Army(Ground self defence force).

What ESC's are you now using?  :-)

I have used Japanese-made KO PROPO MC-8(transmitter),MR-8(8 channel receiver) and MD-1s(ESC)
In my case,two MD-1s are for driving the hull,1 for turret traverse,1 for barrel elevation and 1 for firing switch.
This is a 8 channel radio system,but the radio waves only reach around 50m away according to the manufacture's specifications.However each radio gear is so small and thin that it's convenient for small RC models like my 1/24 tank
that will be capable to install all 8 ESCs if necessary.
1/2;MC-8  15cm wide
3;MR-8 is above left.  very tiny 8 channel receiver!! O0
4;Four ESCs are seen,which are soooo thin!!     Main body is 27.0mmx20.5mmx4.4mm  %%
5;The tank and controller

The manufacturer is Kondo Kagaku Co.,Ltd located in Tokyo,Japan.

.....???

These are L and R ESCs to control the the motors of both sprocket wheels.
Soooo compact that I, for the first time, did not believe them as ESCs.....but actually ESCs O0 {-)
See more details for Kondo Propo company.One of the famous radio control system companies in Japan.

As the tank has good slow speed control, wanted to know which ESC using, most don't controllable slow speed.   :-)

Additionally...I am making a simulated 7.62mmMG sound and its firing flame at the main gun shield.
The point to do this is the space inside the hull.....
I have to install two IC boards and a loud speaker in the hull...
Anyhow take a look at the pics below how this project? is going on currently... ok2 O0
1;I got this IC board kit to simulate and control the firing speed(flashing speed of 3mmLED).
   This is able to flash the LED 20 times a second at maximum that means 1200rounds per min of 7.62mm MG projectiles.. {-)
2;And assembled for test- firing on the board...pika,pika,pika,pika  {-)

Hi RC model tankers;
I will show you today the pics of the Marui Type-90tank under modification work to simulate the MG firing flame and its
sound as if it were firing about 600 rounds level per minute. {-)
1;Sound generating board was already done over 15 years ago for use with a large 1/6 scale tank.
2;IC boards are so small.A battery beside is AA for reference only.
3;A gunport hole was drilled through the gun shield.
4;The hole was done through successfully.
5;A 3mm LED was set like this.

So far so good..though drilling the hole was a bit troublesome as the space around was soooo narrow to work...

Hi model tankers;

Next painstaking work is how to install a loud speaker which is measured 57mm dia with 18mm thick.
It is completely impossible to set in the hull but I managed to find suitable one on the internet successfully.
1/2;I bought a smaller one at Akihabara, Tokyo. The new one is 50mm dia with 12mm thick.
3/4;The new one could be set like these.
5;IC board for the LED is set like this in the front hull.
6;Overall view...the most painstaking work was how to set 6 ESCs in the hull.The tail of BB gun touched the ESC when
it rotates inside the hull frequently in the rotation tests even if I changed the locations of the ESC to find properly its best position......However I could successfully come to find the place for the the 6th ESC to control MG sound and 3mm LED.

And a long-waited test run was made as in the video below.I myself would like to rate it at 87 points out of 100. {-) %%

Hi all;
I have started to get my Marui Type 90 tank put on two headlamps using LED lights.
As There still are two channels left in my MC-8 transmitter and tiny  space in the hull possibly to be able to
allow of installing a mini-servo.
Anyhow, I started the work as in the pics below.
1;I removed the lamps from the hull at first.
2/3/4; Then I made two "lenses", and two lamp guards from mosquito prevention nets used at windows of my house.
      This net is so soft and sensitive to cut round at 7mm dia neatly with keeping the form precisely.
    I used a punch to deal with cutting the lenses and lamp guards,as well as wrapping film to fix the net when punching.
5;Failed in punching the net.... >:-o %%
6;Then I hollowed the existing lamps hemispherically inside.

Hi all;
The pics for today on getting the tank put on two headlamps are as follows;
1/2;LED lamps were set as seen after painting chrome-silver to produce more brilliance ahead.
3;At the same time,I enlarged the holes to fix the headlamps.
4;I twisted the switching part of a micro-switch like this in order that a servo-horn will be able to touch easily the part
  in a narrow space.
5;I used a very tiny servo. Another one is standard servo.
6/7;I set the servo as seen in the pics in this narrow space. Actually only one place is here!! {:-{ :((
  I could succeed in installing the servo and micro-switch,by which an electric gun to fire 6 mm pellets was never interfered
 when traversing in the hull.

Hi all;
Pics for today on wiring and test run of the headlamps are as follows;The result is Ok as they illuminated ahead brilliantly.
1/2/3;The headlamps were complete as shown and installed in place.
4;Test run
5/6/7;After fully assembled in the dark
8;Turned off the lamps

Generally speaking on this modifications,the works themselves were not so difficult to perform,but took much time
to find a suitable place to install a servo and a micro-switch.
Anyhow, large and central part in the hull was occupied by an electric gun traversing zone.... {:-{ :(( {-)
By this modification,this tank has come to use 7 channels in whole 8 channel.
No more space to install a gimmick in the hull...!! O0 {-) %% :-)

Hi all;

I made a video attached below to introduce my latest version of Marui Type 90 tank 1/24 heavily modified as to add working headlights and simulated machine gun sound and its firing flash.
1;Two micro switches are controlled by a micro servo for the machine gun flash and headlights.
2;Latest layout of RC gears of 7 channel specification.
