HMS HOOD
« on: July 21, 2021, 11:54:39 am »

I'm looking for plans of HMS Hood in the 1920 to 1930 configuration. Does anybody have experience which are the best ones available? In particular the hull lines as she has a complex hull shape with the bulges and this needs to be perfect.

Thanks

I assume you have seen this list Geoff:

http://www.hmshood.com/reference/plans.htm

Sambrook Marine plans are of course available from Taubmann but the Taubman list only seems to mention 1932 post refit configuration.

I expect I'm telling you how to suck eggs here!

Hi Geoff

You may also be aware of these resources but I would suggest asking on the modelwarships forum 'Calling all HMS Hood fans' - over 50 pages of posts on Hood there, I think the experts who post on that board might be able to answer your question.

The Ship Model Forum • View topic - Calling all HMS "Mighty" Hood fans (shipmodels.info)

Also there is an excellent blog by EJ Foeth dedicated to a long term Hood project in 1/350 - lots of very detailed information about the fittings, armament, boats in the older posts here (useful for any RN ships in this era really)

On The Slipway – modeling hms hood in 1:350

Hope this helps & good luck

Crikey, she'll be a large model if building to 96th! Even half of her would be a long model. Hood will be 2.7 metres long in that scale, though I thought it was longer still.

Geoff, speak to RAFLaunches.....i know he has a hood with a rather interesting history, plus a piece of plans that might be useful, though rather delicate

Cheers
