Vosper MTB
« on: August 01, 2021, 10:08:06 pm »

Hi,
So my Glynn Guest plans and balsa wood pack arrived on Friday for the Vosper MTB, finally got chance today to make a start. Prop and running gear hasn't arrived yet but the Wife has some metal straws that are almost the same size, so used these as a guide for lining the keel up.
Ordered a brushless outrunner to power it, just going to stick with a single prop after a bit of thought and advice from the forum.

Deck supports and transom added, motor mount made up and coupling all aligned ready for the brushless out runner to drop in when ready. Fitted the deck and added the two extra deck pieces to raise the front end up, looks more like a boat now! Just need to find some sand and sealer to seal the insides before I start to add the hull skin.

Sanded the edges today ready for the hull sides and made a start fitting them. Started getting late and then I managed to put a pin head into my thumb so decided that was enough for tonight!!

Quite a jump in progress from the last update. A few tissue and dope disasters later and the hull is about ready for the rudder to go in. Propshaft is fitted and started work on the superstructure whilst the ezdope was drying.

Another big jump in progress...

After painting and rubbing down and more painting and more rubbing down... I think I'm finally about happy with the hull finish. Took a lot of sanding to get rid of the panel join lines but its much better now. Also made the liferaft, mast, anchor and whatever the little round thing is at the back, smoke generator?
Tamiya paints and the ESC ordered too so hopefully get some water tests done soon.
Need to think of a way of securing the mast too, at the moment it's just sat in a plastic spiggot I stuck to the deck. Might end up drilling through the deck but wanted to avoid this to stop water ingress. Also made a basic stand out of some leftover balsa.

Another large jump in progress since last time, Bollards added, all fixtures, Gun, torpedo tubes etc glued in place and the paint job finished. Really happy with how its turned out. It passed bathtub tests too. Hopefully find a spare hour this weekend to pop to a local lake and give it a proper run, think it's gonna be a fast one!
