Tail rotors are so hard to animate, because of the 90 degree gearbox required. That said, I have seen some folks use a clear disc witha faint yellow ring to simulate the spinning tail rotor. With the main rotor spinning, the effect was very good.

That's a good compromise Akira - I've also seen those transparent plastic discs, which are sometimes used to separate CD / DVD discs, used to simulate main rotors spinning - not as realistic as Bob's and Chris's efforts though.

You could try Prop-Blur but those are mainly for fixed wing aircraft. You could always try the images on this site - printed out on inkjet acetate, they would be fine for the scale. https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=1122

I have cut clear disks from suitable plastic before now using a compass cutter. Then you get the central hole as well! Your Wessex looks fab Rob. I like the Blue/grey look.

if there is a tail plane on the other side of the boom, fitting a mobile phone vibration motor may be possible, its small enough to be inconspicuous enough to work

the fin is about 2mm thick and i dont think that even a mootr as you mention will fit, if it had been Sea King it might have but not Wessex

Looking good, just as a thought if the tail rotor is very free spinning would the draft from the main rotors set it spinning?

Cheers

Finally got Vic smoking, using a Hen Long tank smoke generator which works brilliant, also low cost £9.50 and its smal size, the wires hanging down are the leads for the working parts that will be in the island

Sorry had not seen the photo's since it was early am, the tail plane is further down the tail as well, on a seaking its in line with the rotor so a small motor could potentially be fitted under the tail plane to drive the rotor.

At long last Victorious got her bottom wet, this was done at the Hereford Model Engineers Pond.  Not bothered by the list to the flight deck overhang, this was mainly to see how she would fit and if she was watertight due to the way I built her.  Happy to say all is well and passed with flying colours, even if she does look as if she has had a tot or two.
