Tamiya 1/12 Lotus JPS Mk3
« on: August 12, 2021, 09:16:45 pm »

Hi all due to the kindness of Richard, this arrived today all the way from the US of A.

It looks an amazing kit, obviously since it was a kind donation I have decided to take greater care than I did with the RE20 first thing I noticed was the fuel lines are way out of scale they should be 8mm which scales down to 0.7mm roughly (slightly less than that its actually 0.67recuring) the supplied clear tubing is 1.33mm
After heating and stretching I have a very close

That is about all I will get done before the funeral.
I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this.

Not at home at the moment (father in laws funeral) (will be sadly missed) but before I left home I managed this much

Where would I find pics of this engine, I google it but all I get are pics of this kit in various stages of build.

Hi kpnuts

I googled Cosworth DFV /images and was well inundated with pictures.

Had a quick check, and in its private life the JPS mark lll was actually a Lotus 78, and indeed the engine was a Cosworth DFV (Double Four Valve) even if it said Ford on the valve covers

Several references also to (working) models of the engine, too
https://bangshift.com/bangshiftapex/1-3-scale-cosworth-dfv-v8-engine-both-running-and-in-detail/

hope this helps

More progress on the engine and chassis.
I can't believe these engines are the same scale considering they are similar CC's

Thanks mate, how are things.

I have always enjoyed looking at your work. You and vehicles seem to work well together and your finished projects are superb Ken.

I do not get on much on any sites now, modelling is still slow paced, nothing complicated now as my hands and back just are not upto it, add my COPD and I am well...kaput  :D But, what I do manage to do, I enjoy.

You take it easy mate.

More work on the engine of this, reducing the size of that clear tubing made it a real pain to get on but I do think it looks better.

Started on the rear brakes, I'm surprised for a tamiya kit there is no brake pipe detail. Just means I will be adding it.

Hi all back off hols so now eager to get back at this.

Whilst on hols I won a revell ex protar F1 for a really great price (yes the box is really battered but the bits all look good) I've seen one on there with a starting bid of 197 quid I paid no where near that.
Can anyone guess what it is.

Hi all more progress, even with coating these old decals with clear I can't tell you how many pieces they break into when applied, very slow progress.

But at that time the tanks contained the absorbent filling to help stopping flamers.

Hi all (sorry Richard ) the fit of the body panels (maybe the age of the kit) is awful for tamiya standards what ive photoed here is the main body part all else is an awful fit, as this kit was a gift I'm doing my best but this will never be up with the best I've built, that's not to say I'm not enjoying the build its just a shame it won't be my best build.
