CrackinMAD
« on: August 16, 2021, 10:38:59 am »

Hi All
This is a little Crackabox Speedboat(555mm) with I traded for suppling a 45Amp ESC and rewiring a club member's boat.

As it had no motor, ESC, battery, servo or radio it was in for some changes !!!

I went with a 35 turn rock crawler 540 brush motor and 60 Amp ESC.
I removed the battery tray and change to two small 80mm long 3S 1500mah Lipo batteries.
That's more from the spares bits box.

This moved the CG to about 1/3 the length of the boat from the stern !!!

As for the trim tabs on the stern which are seized up, they will stay at present .

I have another set to put on, but hoping to get rid of the things !!!

I finally got a coupling today, so its all setup ready to rock and roll.

No red couplings in both hobby shops, like hen's teeth to get !!!

To drive that with the exhaust in their faces, the pilot and navigator must have a hole in their heads ! Oh, they have, OK !  .........I'll get my coat !

Well Lads

After cooking the brush motor and finding the drive bearing shot.

A bit of a rebuild, with a 4mm drive line and a 35mm 1250kv brushless motor still on the 3S batteries.

Removed the motor mount and the two stringer which were only balsa.

New alloy motor mount and stringers installed.

Started to sand down the hull bottom to install chine and spray rails.

The top is not waterproof, so that's another job on the list.

Hi All

Installed  3 x 3mm rails, sanded and filled to angle which workout easy.

Two coats of paint and out in the sun to dry !!!!

Hopefully the rails will cut down the water spray without tripping the boat in the turns !!!

Hi All
Made the boat stand and making the hatch seal a bit more waterproof with household door seal.

Just a couple of pieces to do on the hatch to get it sitting right at the front.

Hi All
Well the spray and chine rails worked great, but the brushless motor (Banggood C3542-1250kv) on 3S Lipo batteries was a bit disappointing.

The boat did not have the speed, so next step is to change to a C3542-1450kv which will add about 2200 rpm.
But may have to buy two 4S small Lipo batteries to get the boat Crackin Mad !!!

Hi All

The change up to the 1450kv motor did up the speed, but as the water was getting a bit too choppy .
I did not push the boat too hard.

Next change back to the 2 blade prop which has a bit more bite .

At just under 22" long (in old money), the C3542-1450KV brushless motor should shove it along at a fair old pace!

You may need to adjust those trim tabs to keep the hull nice and level with that sort of power in such a short hull - cant wait to see the video!  %)

Hi All

The first calm water day and dam hot (over 30C) !!!

With the 1450kv motor on 3S lipo batteries ( two small 80mm long ones) the boat sits flat on the water.

A total little rocket.

The trim tabs have seized up, so as the boat works well I will leave it as is .

The motor without water cooling does not get hot as the fan on the ESC keeps it all cool.
