My Bannister-Fletcher history of Architecture book would not admit to either Roman or Greek.   Even in their most absurd styles no Roman or Greek would have allowed any monstrosity like that.  >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

The Beale Trustees sent most of them to auction a while back.

Comments from Facebook....

Ian Bell
They held an auction of some sort quite a while ago. Believe a lot of what they disposed of was rather "tatty" from the pics published at the time of the storeroom they were in.

Philip Spencer
Ok. So it's not the one's that were on display?

Martin Gazeley
most of the ones that were on display in the pavilion have now been sold. there are still quite a few left. but its a bit hit and miss, plus covid stopped things for a while.

Kevin John Tinklin
been there 3 times and got some nice models u got to talk to max

David Freeman
I have a nice Trent lifeboat model from there

Philip Spencer
Umm, did you pay for these models? They were all originally donated to Beale park for free.

Ian Cochrane
Philip Spencer Some extremely valuable items have been donated to museums for free, if they wish to thin out their collections, do they have to give them away for free?
Only asking because the Maritime Museum, Greenwich have a few items in storage that I rather like. 😂

John Hart
From what I understand there has been an auction some time ago,one of our members as some boats he won, nice boats but were not cheap.

Bob Blease
The models werent all donated for free. 3 of mine were bought outright by Richard Howard. There has been multiple sales but as Martin has said still a lot there.

Colin Miller
Bob I can think of a few he bought from Glasgow that all in cost a few thousand pounds 👍

John Wardale
They started selling them off in September ‘19 and a lot of them have been sold yes including the ones in the pavilion. They used to have two open days a month to get people in to thin the collection out.

Andy Tribble
Yes. However as far as I know the sales are now private and you need to contact the Vintage Model Yacht Group if you want to go along.

Martin Davis
Lots of controversy & bad feelings about the sale, ownership rights & prices from what I remember.... 😕

Pete Carman
Beale Park never actually owned all the boats. Some were bought, some donated, some were loaned. The biggest problem is who actually owned what, as the estate never kept records of what was what. I know many people who loaned boats to the estate that have now been sold.

My MMI review model of Fleetscale’s Denny Steam Gunboat was definitely bought by Richard.
Wonder what happened to it ?

Visited the museum a couple of times while attending MB shows - it struck me as sad in the sense they were mostly working models - sitting on shelves gathering dust .........

Some were really great models but no details or history given either
