My Sankyo's Japan ground defence force Type 74 tank 1/10
« on: August 29, 2021, 02:52:19 am »

Hi Getemuphigh;
The president of the Sankyo company has passed away,5 or 6 years before..?if I remember correctly.
Therefore you could find the products only in the market like in E-bay.
The company originally started the production of the RC vehicles( including model tanks) at least over 40 years ago.
This is not only my personal opinion,but other enthusiasts's opinions that the appearance be not good ,but mechanism be
good enough to drive the heavy models like tanks.

By the way,I still have one of the Type 74 tank powered by the electric motor water-cooled with a radiator and a fan and still "alive".
My first Type 74 tank was nitro-engine powered one with OS 45 water cooled with a radiator and a fan.
1-5;My first Type 74 tank with nitro-engine already sold to other enthusiast on request.
6/7;Electric version still "alive" in my hand.
8;A real Type 74 tank which is equipped with a 105mm L7A1 gun barrel originally designed by UK army arsenal
at Nottingham.

Hello Backerther,
Many thanks for the information and great pictures.
Yes I too still have my T-74 and is original nitro powered,
Some years ago I posted it on my YouTube channel, I will try and find the link or maybe search it.
The detail on the Sankyo tank was not so good but the overall model I think is good and strong.
Again thank you for the  information and I like you posting.
Regards
Peter

Latest version of the sprocket wheels of my second Type 74 tank(electric ) is as in the pics.
I had the sprocket wheels made by a certain club member who had a mini-lathe to make such wheels. %%
I think them very realistic as compared with the original ones. O0

Original sprocket wheel is one of by far the most unrealistic part for this tank. {:-{ :((

I like water-cooled system even in a RC tank simply because it's so effective to cool the nitro-engine or the electric motor
as far as suitable space for that is secured to set in the hull. {-) %% O0
1;The motor is attached with a cooling coil tube.You can see a radiator,a blower fan beside the radiator,a water tank.
2;This one is a nitro-engine type of water-cooled system.You can see a radiator,fan,micro-pump(small yellow one beside the
 hull wall),a brass water tank(larger one ) and also a brass smoke-engine oil separatory tank (smaller one).
From my experience of operating this engine tank in a mid-summer day,the water tank got too hot after 30 minutes run,
when the fuel tank got fully empty. O0 :o ;) I thought it meant every part of the tank worked very well.
As many of model tankers who have experienced to run the nitro-engine tank under the hot weather day,may know how it is difficult to run such tank which inside is nearly sealed actually no air flow while the engine is running.....
what is worse,the material is steel easy to get hot under the hot temperature.......Literally, water is indispensable to the tank and its operator,isn't it?? O0 {-) :D
Instead,mid-winter is the best for the RC tank operation,!!!!!! {-) {-) {-)

The third pics was taken in a mid-winter on the riverside where was so cold with some wind....... {:-{ {:-{ O0 %% ;)
The nitro-engine ran quite well !!!Exhaust smoke will show you how strong the wind was.!!!! {-) {-) {-)

The wheels look much better than standard.
The water cooling is great idea and engineered.
My tank is just air cooled as standard.

Hi Getemuphigh;

I have appreciated your video and was impressed with its superb and powerful movement of the model tank. :-))
In addition, camouflage coloring is also well done. O0
On the other hand, the nitro engine tank must be rather noisy caused by the engine sound and gearbox noise ,from my
experience and is it OK to run the tank in the street near your house? which circumstances look  also nice..

Anyhow,your model tank is so realistic with the colors and powerful just like a real tank.!! :-)) :-)) :-))

Hi Backerther,
Yes the tank is noisy and Smokey, just like a real tanks!
The neighbours did not mind the noise, I did not run it for too long though.
Now I have moved to another house few years ago.

This is my way of turret rotation system engineered, based upon so narrow a space in the hull about 30 years ago.
"The enemy" to fight against for this tank was the very narrow space in the hull as well as hot temperature in a hot day and generally  sealed chassis of the model tank made of steel. O0 {-) {:-{ %%
Nevertheless,it used to run very well even in the sun in a mid-summer day by which the tank body became hot after the run
like a real tank?... {-) {-) ;D

One of the most noticeable points of this tank to be modified is the gun barrel shape,its tapered shape.
An original barrel of the kit does not have natural taper between the front part and rear part of the fume extractor.
In other words,there is a clear step around the fume extractor in the barrel thickness rather than the loose taper.

1;The real barrel that has a natural taper from the base to the muzzle.
2;The kit original barrel is too thin at front part of the fume extractor,and thick at the rear of the extractor with no taper ,which means no shallow taper through the whole barrel length. {:-{ O0
3;My modified barrel, though not completely done ,but much improved with a shallow taper. O0
4/5;About 30 years ago....on the roof of a certain department store in Tokyo... %% {-)

Hi all;
From today I have started the restoration of the tank (electric) for the first time in 19 years since this had been finished. {-)
This tank is fully covered with thick dust as you can see the following pics but inside of the tank seems OK to accept the restoration comparatively in a short period. So this work will be my summer project for the time being.!
RC boating is stunningly awesome to build and operate on the water, and RC ground vehicles are also interesting to get them
run on the ground as well at least for me.! :-)) :-))
This tank is about 67cm long(hull length) and close to 30 kg(with a lead battery) made of fundamentally steel.
So the running is very powerful enough together with the mechanical sound generated from the inside of the tank though sometimes noisy.! {-) {-) I'm very happy if I could let you see the video of running tank in due course of time. %%
The pics below are the tank as it is for today covered with thick dust to be removed from tomorrow. :-)) :-))

Hi Getemuphigh;
  Thanks a lot for your comment. Certainly yes,I will change some battery connecters to meet lipos to get the tank to drive and other parts for a good update.
As you know,this one is heavy for me like the aged.... {:-{ :(( :embarrassed:
