Graupner jet boat
« on: August 30, 2021, 11:26:59 am »

I have a Graupner jet boat coming soon and wondered if anyone had built the same, wondering what the steering set up is on these as cannot see the control rods to steer the bucket on the pictures I have looked at?

Thanks

I built one a couple of years back, nowhere near the standard as Umi's work, I made it straight to the plans. I hope that these photos will help, not as focused as I would like but tricky to get a photo of this area.

So it looks to me like they steer via a tank steering set up, or am I looking at it wrong? Is there a steering part in the actual jet unit?

There is a controllable steering nozzle on each drive along with a reverse bucket

My proboat PBR  was going to fit buckets but with the jets being steerable it turns on the spot  Tank steering not needed. OK no reverse but  in open water not  really a problem. are the Graupner jets are not  steerable

The Graupner jet units are steerable and the boat turns well. I did find that reverse steering is not very effective with the reversing buckets fitted. Independant control of the motors or reversing buckets would help with this although I have not tried this yet.

I have seen the operation of one now, I couldn't see the steerable nozzle on the pics I was looking at but also notice Krick now sell the same jet unit so should also be ok for spares if needed.

Thanks

Ah! Didn't know there were two versions!

Don't know what motors, no marking that I could see, but I'll have another look.....

The earlier versions were seperate hull and deck and the later ones were blow moulded all in one...

How did you get the wheelhouse off, to get inside?

Haven't built it yet but it will be the same as the SARS I am building now, wheelhouse is separately built with the die cut plasticard so comes off in one.

When I built mine normal styrene glue was not very effective on the die cut pieces. I tried Plastiweld which normally works well and found the joints failed. I ended up using a 2 part Acrylic glue which worked well.

I always use cyanoacrylate on plasticard, usually stands the test of time Jim.
