I really want an RC yacht again
« on: September 26, 2022, 12:18:57 pm »

I really want an RC yacht again for the lake a ten minute walk away.

Ideally an unstarted lesro 575, or a completed one, but still no joy.

Might you have one for sale ?

Reason for a 575 is I had one many years ago and found it to be a nice model needing minimum depth of water and a dry boat to boot.

Has anyone got a Volantex Compass V791-1 ?

If so, how do you find it ?

Done a little research but still can't find info as to depth of water needed etc..

Still waiting for feedback from wheelspin and Volantex.

Any other suggestions as to similar ready to sail or yacht kits ?

Thanks

I also think that the 575 had a lot to offer. I built one and enjoyed sailing it on a pond that had very shallow sloping sides and a bit of weed, The slope on the front of the 575 keel and its shallow draft made it possible. Anything with a deep dagger plate and rudder was a complete non starter. It would have suited me better if the rudder had been the rearmost part of the fin assembly to make it less like a weed catch pole.

There must be a 575ish design out there somewhere.
I wonder if a footy design or something like a Glynn Guest Goblin could be adapted.

Our local boatyard had a similar problem with a submerged bar at the end of the dyke. This meant that standard depth sailing boats could not reach the moorings. The story goes that he purchased a pair of damaged firbeglass yachts from the south coast after the 1987 hurricane and chopped the keels so that he could get them to his moorings and hire them out. They sail well on our inland waters and are still in use. Just a thought.

Yes, shallow draught needed.
Local lake, the nearest one, flooded quarry pit has weed and I don't know where the "cliff edge" is.

I don't really wanna buy some wadders...

Research list is growing...

Micro manic, don't have a money tree in the garden, and draught of boat relatively deep.

Thinking of a "Starlet" or its small other version "Starbaby" both a Vic Smeed model.

Sarik has the starlet plan but not the Starbaby plan.

Anyone know of a Starbaby plan ?

I understand a mag article way back when featured this/these models, anyone have the mag/article please ?

Have placed a wanted add on the other place, we shall see what that shows up...

Still researching...

Manic should read majic

Wee Nip

This has the problem of a fin and bulb that could have been designed for weed catching.

Agreed but I am not sure what would happen if the fin shape, depth and possibly weight was extensively changed and the rudder relocated. It might not sail very well after that lot!

Hi spearfish,

Yes, sarik, from the plan please may I ask what is the distance from the waterline to the base of the dagger board please ? The depth of water needed to float/draft ?

Thinking very hard to buy the plan but a little more research needed, like draught and depth of water at Llanberis Llyn Padarn sailing site. I suspect water depth sufficient at launch site as I saw an RC yacht there but was called away due to crisis at "work"....

No reply Rich.

  Regards  Ian.

If Starbaby is a true reduction of Starlet, WL to bottom of keel is 210mm.

Found the plan and measured it. Aproximately, 71/2 inches
