A bit more done on the thruster motor bracket today, not much more to do before its permanently fitted into place.

Further progress with fitting the thruster, I fitted a support bracket for the motor mount as the only thing that would be supporting it would be the grub screw. I decided to glass the thruster into the hull lets hope it won't need to come out at a later date LOL, I also decided to give the hull an extra coat o resin while I was glassing the thruster.

A small amount of filler was used on the thruster outlet and primer added to show any imperfections.

The bow thruster from Modelbau appears to be an excellent ..if not near industrial quality...[best on the model market?] is there a recommended input shaft speed relative to the [propeller] diameter/size and a recommended motor power input?

Your installation triangular mounting gusset and the fabricated brass section vertical bracket appears securely robust [but needed]

What is the distance between water level & the axis of the thruster....~~150 mm?

We see the 'hefty' brushless motor, so is there a potential for 'scale' cavitation or will this be eliminated/minimised by a speed controller? ....would you only conclude cavitation by a discharge foam with bubbles, or an audible increase in motor speed?

Hi Derek
The thruster is very well made, unfortunately no info is given regards motor power and shaft speed, I have had it up to 2500 rpm and runs very smooth.

Your spot-on regarding water level and axis 150mm

The brushless motor is just one I had in stock that I posted just to show how Its fitted, I will be using a speed controller for the motor but if needed I will buy a new motor if needed,
(any recommendations regarding brushless motors would be apricated as I’m not up to scratch with these motors)

A good couple of days working on the build, stern roller just about fitted. Anchor boxs cooling water intake boxes and stern roller laminated in.
I made spring loaded pins for the roller for easy fitting.

Brian....

All of the internal formwork support appears to be a species of fast-growing Pine?........will it have a coat of some sort of waterproofing prior to sealing up?, and are you using an epoxy resin cement to adhere the timber to the black Gelcoat?

The frame work is from my local DIY shop 12 x 12mm I have used this on many models over the years, i have never thought about waterproofing as I have never had a problem with this in the past

I have used laminating resin on the frames that are attched to the hull. I will be using a water proof wood glue on the rest of the frames. The black you see on the inside of the hull is laminating resin with a colour pigment added, I decided to give the inside of the hull a coat to help seal around the anchor boxes and cooling water intake boxes plus around the stern end roller, probably over the top and cosmetic to be honest

Hello Brian,
who's make was your Half round and how did you fix it to the hull as you may of seen in my SD14 build I have had huge problems with mine finding a glue that would stick it to plastic.

Hi Howard
I bought the half round on line from Model Shop Leeds, the make is Maquette the glue I use is Mitre Bond from Screwfix, I use this glue on all my builds and never had problems with it. I always give the plastic a light sanding before sticking. The glue is very reasonably priced,I normally buy the trade kit, it includes 3 50g bottles and a starter pen £14:99

Howard if you decide to buy the glue be carful with the starter pen, it melts the plastic instantly you don't get a second chance, I very rarely use the starter pen as I think you get a better joint just using the glue.

I'm interested to know what is used to stick the plasticard around inside of the top of hull/bulwarks?

I use the same glue for the plastic around the inside of the bulwarks Mitre Bond, I used Grip medium for many years but unfortunately I'm not able to get it know. I did manage to get some from flea bay but it took quite a while to come and i didn't it was the same.
