Hi Hans,

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Great idea using a step down converter to regulate the voltage to the various accessories and the zener diode to more precisely regulate the voltage to the radar motor.

You attention to detail with the electrics should make for a flawless model.

Hello,

next issue is finishing the mast.
At first the wires for the bulbs needed to be fiddled into the mast (was easier than thought of):
S4-01119HPG.jpg

The housing for lights were taped and then glued to the holder.
The wires were fixed underneath the holders:
S4-01121HPG.jpg

After spray painting (primer and top coat) the mast is ready for assemby to the wheel house:
S4-01122HPG.jpg

Last details were mounted to the wheel house (position- and search-lights, horns, safety equipment):
S4-01124HPG.jpg

Once the mast ist set to the wheel house wiring will start.

Hi Hans,

Thanks for updating your build-log - its coming along nicely.

By the way, that's a nice chrome search light on the cabin roof - was that provided with the kit or did you source it separately?

Hello Pauli,

the search light was part of the kit and has room enough for a decent light.

Hello,

Yesterday the mast was mounted and fixed:
S4-01125HPG.jpg

All lights were wired and tested:
S4-01127HPG.jpg
S4-01130HPG.jpg

The search light came out strong enough to act as such:
S4-01133HPG.jpg

So far the installed illumination:
two working lights at the crane
navi lights (stb, port, top und rear)
three signal lights
one search light

The working deck in the rear has not enough illumination; two working lights will added.

Hi Hans,

Your build is looking great - the lights really help to bring it to life  :-))

Do all of your lights use incandescent "grain of wheat" bulbs or have you used LED's in any of them?

Also are they all powered by one switched supply or are some switched individually?

Thanks for the update - looking forward to the next instalment of your build.

Hallo Pauli,

Stb, port, and search light are LED, the other are lightbulbs,

Three "groups" to switch:
a) Search light
b) Navigation lights
c) Signal- and working lights

Best Regards
Hans

Hi Hans,

Thanks for updating your build-log.

Your wooden decking looks very realistic - was it provided with the kit or have you sourced it separately?

Hallo Pauli,

the wodden decking was not part of the kit; the idea just came 2 weeks ago and I had to buy it > at www.Krickshop.de and search for "boatdecks".

Hi Hans,

Thanks for your reply.

The wooden decking is a great idea - it will certainly add to the realism of the completed model.

Little progress last week;

Made a few ropes:
S4-01141HPG.jpg

and placed them after painting on the deck:

The holders for the lifevests and two flood-lights were added on the wheel-house:

Hi Hans,

Thanks for updating your build-log  :-))

The ropes are a nice touch - did you dye them?

By the way, I was wondering how the wheelhouse is attached to the deck - is it just a push fit over the raised coaming around the main access hatch?

Kind regards,

Pauli

Hi Pauli,

the ropes were just brushed with paint.

The wheel-house fits very good (tight fit) to the coaming and does not need any additional holders.

Best Regards
Hans

Hello,

in this week the wooden working deck was finished.
it consists of four sections cut out from a Boatdeck-panel sold by KRICK:
S4-01146HPG.jpg

In the next step the deck was drained with special paint for wodden boats and after a few days of drying ist was ground.:
S4-01147HPG.jpg
S4-01148HPG.jpg

next step was weathering with some suitable colors and sealling with a coat of flat clear:
S4-01149HPG.jpg
S4-01150HPG.jpg

The overview looks like this:
S4-01151HPG.jpg

Also finished is the transport/storage box for the model:
S4-01153HPG.jpg

Next is the first real test in the water > waiting for some hours with decent sunlight somewhat higher temperatures.

Hi, the aft deck looks much better than supplied with the "humps" to fit the buoys.  Is that an F14/16 transmitter tucked up in the last picture?

Hi Hans,

Thank you for updating your build log - the weathered decking looks very realistic  :-))

Do you intend to mount the Romarin / Krick buoys on the deck or are you going to use different buoys or perhaps you have another use for the crane mechanism?

Kind regards

Hallo Pauli,

I do not intend to use the buoys supplied with the model.

I am looking at an exploration submarine; something like this:

Bathyscaphe - Visual Dictionary
At present I am searching for a suitable model.

Hi Hans,

Thanks for your reply.

That will look really good if you are able to source a suitable model sub / bathyscaphe.

I have just ordered a Paula 3 myself with the special functions kit and buoy set and will probably commence building it after the Christmas holidays.

It would be nice to see a video of your model on the water once it is fully completed.

Kind regards,

Pauli

Hello Pauli,

all the best for your build;
