ABS hull repair
« on: October 19, 2021, 03:40:17 pm »

Hi all, I need to repair my ABS hull, I've used Evo stickall to attempt to fix a leak, but it's actually caused more damage by Melting the hull, there's quite a bit of work needed, do I repair by using fiberglass or with plastic card, I need to improve the strength in the damaged area as well

I have never use this before but you can get abs adhesive from the plumbers merchants. But which ever system you use be careful of the heat some chemicals develop. Try a few test pieces before the big one. good luck.nemesis

you can use acetone to glue abs, or you could melt some abs in acetone to make a paste, but be careful as if you use it on a thin sheet of abs it can melt through before the acetone evaporates. I 3d pint using abs and sometimes brush a wash of acetone over the outside of the finished part to ensure the layers stick together well

Assuming you have access to the inside - if you can clean the surface to get back to good ABS I would use several thin planks of ABS solvent welded to build up the inside. If you do it with a thin layer of cement you should not get any distortion. Additiobnal layers will provide further strength.

Good luck

Hi Trucker,

As I mentioned on your build thread, you're probaby better to post a picture as how it looks / where it is almost certainly affects what to do, and it's just speculation without.

Sorry to be a bit precise but saves random things not right for you.
