Powercraft Band Saw M1A 190
« on: October 24, 2021, 07:25:22 pm »

Hi I have one of these from some years ago, I am looking for replacement Carbon ( I assume they are Carbon) 5mm Sq blade guides, just wondered if anyone else has one of these and where you can get any from.

Have contacted Walter Tools but as yet no response, also checked with Axminister Tools, Screwfix, BQ, Wickes etc but they do not have this type or size.

I have seen something on Ebay but not sure if these would be ok.

The link seems to give a different size but there is an option for 5mm Sq.

Hi.

I think they are the same as fitted to an old Black and Decker band saw.

Look here....
Miles Tool & Machinery Centre.... https://www.mtmc.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductID=133240&source=googlebase&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiNSLBhCPARIsAKNS4_e5p2YNtcSerr8VtJO-ya4q9esJtSM54oM2vn8Yl_8kVgFb1ZbNwZwaAiU8EALw_wcB

No.19 in the spares list. £1.95.

The original material is more likely to be Lignum Vitae than carbon fibre.  The latter is very abrasive and likely to cause excessive wear on the blade.  Suggest you look into fabricating replacement guides yourself - LV can easily be found on the usual auction sites or specialist timber suppliers.

Bandsaw guides are normally made from TUFNOL .
Tufnol is readily available in various shapes and sizes and is easily shaped to fit the bandsaw guide holder.

Thanks all for your posts, I shall look into the products mentioned, I just assumed it was carbon, although looking carefully at the piece I guess it might not be..
