White foam beads
« on: November 05, 2021, 10:16:40 am »

Do white foam beads absorb water ?

I know builders expanding foam is not great as it will expand and expand forcing apart a plastic voided hull.

As asked, will unpicked white foam beads from packaging absorb water when unpicked please ?

Can someone send the answer of that one to the far East, where we see choked waterways? In my experience, no.

loose as in a bean bag seat or solid as in the packaging you get with the washing machine etc, neither will absorb water (well not strictly true the solid does absorb water but between the beads and to a greater extent in the loose as they are not compressed together) a single bead will not absorb a noticable amount - as it breaks down however then yes, if contained in a plastic bag then the likely hood is moisture from the air.

Hi there. Be careful, as some of these packing beads ( the ones that look like a certain cheese snack) are made from starch and will desolve in water. Ooh nasty.
Cheers chipmonk.

Ok, was thinking pouring individual beads into the void for extra bouancy/displacement.

Will have a rethink...
