Ami Gaël
« on: November 21, 2021, 08:34:57 am »

Hello!
I am glad to show you my "Ami Gaël" that I just finished .
The drawing is issued of a common steam launch in which I changed the stern and bow to give a vintage style.
My Cheddar boiler and Gemini engine fits perfectly !
Didn't sail yet as I better do that during warm & sunny days when the beer is fresh!  %)

As usual started from scraps.
Regards! ok2

Bonjour Yves,
Beautiful launch indeed with a lot of work on all the details, I am sure that a lady will appreciate the leather cushions  :-))
But wouldn't she also deserve a whistle  ok2  ?
And behind her, would I recognize a rare and famous "Bat" ?

Hello Raphael!
You are right , I have a Bat that I found on Ebay and I to be honest ,  I wish I had the drawing to build it myself.
I had quite a few  work to make it presentable !  It will be a future post as the boiler is made and that I am still lookingg for the engine.
i do not install a whistle on all of my launches , but some have ! ok2
Cheers !

I have some ressources on my shelf though , but I am looking for ..... I'll tell later ! :-)
That launch deserves something special !  ok2
I appreciate your help !

Bonjour Yves,
1,2 kilos ! Oups, I had not noticed this infomation.
Based on my experience with a thin hull, perhaps a 3 cm3 JMC or equivalent ones would be enough, no steam consuming and quite powerful because as you know it, the important factor is the size of the propeller.

Once upon a time this steam propulsion unit was designed especiially to accommodate within BAT...while providing quite authentic appearance...
Try to find old CATON twin engine...these still could be founded on e-bay and other internet auctions...
That shall be definitely the best fit indeed.

Cheers,
Roman

Hello!
This what I had in mind !
I have this old CATON . The first reverse gear with the friction O'ring was not reliable (slippery when wet) and I decided to change it for a Maudslay one.
But I am not satisfied with my work . the arms are a bit too loose to allow a perfect reverse and I have to review it.

PS: I shall open a post on this launch when I'll be ready. Showing the boiler building , bigger than the Cheddar.

Hello, this is not a Caton, but a Marten, Howes & Baylis PB2 engine.

Sorry !
You are right KNO3.
My Caton's are already in other launches.
That's why I am looking for something different. It becomes very expensive to import from UK (when the saler agrees... !)
But If I find another Caton on time , why not ?? ok2

Below is the CATON which will be in the Bat !  ok2
Have a good day

That's a very nice engine. Is it smaller than the red Max II?

Today wads the day !
Hot, sunny (almost like in Derek's country ! {-) ) and enough beer in the coolbox !
I felt like a winner and I show that I was !
The sailing was perfect despite the strong wind. the steam plant worked fine with 2.5 b steady.
A bit rolling with the wind but nothing dramatic .
green tag and ready for the next trip.
Cheers !
Note: I didn't do any check of the driven pump supplying the boiler. Maybe the next time , I'll prime it.

Bonjour Yves,
I fully agree with our colleagues, your launch is beautiful AND efficient. I am surprized to see her so steady in this wind.
My concern, as usual, where is the whistle  ok2 ?
