Mobile Marine Models - Clyde Puffer / Vic Boat
« on: November 23, 2021, 06:14:00 pm »

Mobile Marine Models.. new release..WW2 66 foot Vic Boat

Scale = 1:32
OAL - 25 3/4"  (655 mm)
Beam - 7 1/2"  (190 mm)

This new release by Mobile Marine Models is available as Full Kit , or under the umbrella of
the Budget Building System... a system pioneered by MMM, many moons ago !!
This system allows the modeller to only buy the particular Pack they need.... All five packs =
Full kit, consisting of plated detailed GRP hull / Ply Superstructure / Motor & Shaft / P.S.
resin & white metal fittings ........ All full kits include electric Lights.

Surprisingly, whilst some call these boats Clyde Puffers, suggesting they all started life in
Scotland, the vast majority of the more than 150 built from 1939 thru to 1945, were
actually built in England, with many built by yards in Goole / Thorne / Northwich.
It is worth noting that not all the 66 footer were Steam powered...... some were built with oil
engines ( diesels )

The one unique feature of these boats is that, whilst they are easily recognisable, the super
structures varied dramatically.... perhaps because each yard was given free license, because
of WW2 short supply of materials, to complete the boats, within reason, to their own design,
though three distinct designs emerged.... Open Bridge / Wheel House ( Steam driven ) /
Wheel House ( Diesel driven )
The unique feature of this model, even from just Pack #1 ( hull & Plan ), is that the Modeller
can choose either one of these three options ... Or build all three... and sail a different boat
every Sunday !!!..... even the Cargo Hatch has two options .
