Looking for certain size brass tube
« on: November 06, 2021, 01:09:04 pm »

I live in the US and am trying to find brass tubing to make struts for 3/8" outside diameter stuffing boxes. I did locate one source but the diameter was just a hair small and the walls very thick. I wonder if anyone knows where I could  get a thin-walled tube to fit a 3/8" stuffing box? Brass or stainless.  Unfortunately I don't have the equipment to machine the parts. Thank you.

Try K&S tubing.Sold in model shops and made in the USA. From memory they canbe bought so that the sizes slide inside each other

Thank you Frazer. K&S was the first place I looked and I could not find something that large. But I also sent them an inquiry just to make sure I had not overlooked it. I have not heard back yet. Thank you for replying I very much appreciate it.

Hi Frazer -
The reason I wrote to K&S is to double check the ID. I think the UK supplier list as well as K&S are stating the OD. Hopefully on Monday I will hear. Quite kind of you to help. Thank you!

If there is an ACE hardware near you, they often carry an assortment of K&S brass.
#8135 Should be 3/8"OD, and #8136 should be 3/8"ID or 13/32"OD

Umi is right! I just did not dig deep enough through the K&S products. The problem is solved (and a lesson learned) - so thank you all!

When I received the correct brass that I needed from K&S the package included a chart with all available inside and outside diameter information. That completely takes care of any future searches for the right tubing! Perhaps that info is on the website but I still cannot find it all in one place as it appears on this handy chart. Thanks again to Umi for keeping me on track LOL!

Colin, yes it is. I suspect most modelers have seen it  - I'm just a little slow on the pickup LOL.

Same here, never found or seen before & it's not even titled as a K&S reference :o .......
Whenever I have searched for K&S, always found Distributor refill bundles sizes American for Shops >>:-( .....then a few pages later, just an abridged version of this

So impressed I've rotated the page 90 degrees & saved it to the Desktop :-))

I've not been on here for weeks now so I'm playing catch-up.
Like Derek I too have just downloaded that chart and will save and print it - a great find indeed  :-))
