My Diva
« on: December 08, 2021, 06:48:48 am »

Hi All

Received this started boat as the owner lost interest in it !!!!

He was having problems with the rear cabin section ???

So I added a capping over the bulwarks to keep in all in place.

The prop shaft and rudder will be replaced with better stuff.
Also oilers for both !!!

A 3542-1250kv brushless motor as well.

Adding full length chine rails and some spray rails.

The boat stand was falling to pieces, so I made a new one.

Four coats of paint on the two roof areas and one whale tail added.

Bow hand rails and bollards added as well.

Also started on the captain's chair and dashboard panel.

The Nor Star Wave Princess sounds good - somebody was going to have his full size set of plans copied for me, and I was really looking forward to building one and was delighted to pay for the copy and postage cost - but he can't find the plans - so that is as close as I got to making a Wave Princess!

Your Diva is making good progress Harry - maybe a Christmas launch?  {-)

A Wave Princess would be great! I haven't forgotten that Waverider plan but the local print shops seem to have closed.

My collection of classic model power boats seems to have skipped the Nor Star models - maybe its because our two local model shops "The Modellers Den" and "Cyril Howes" (when I was still living at home in Bath) never stocked them - and is why we never saw any of them on our local waters in the 1960's.

We saw plenty of Aerokits, LesRo and Veron model power boats built from these kits and some built from plans, but it was the wooden powerboats from those three main manufacturers that were the most prolific.

I built a Waverider about 50 years ago, and finally found one on eBay a couple of years ago, a part-built kit. Due to the seller packing it very badly, it was a collection of broken plywood and cascamite powder when it arrived, but the all-important plan was still useable. It's on the list for next year's build, but then again it's been on the list since I got it!

At least you have the full size plan Dave.  Was the Waverider about 30" long.....and the Wave Princess 36" ?

From memory, the Waverider was about 28" - I'll check the box when I get a moment. I think the Princess was larger, but have no personal experience of that model, unfortunately.

Good to see them all advertised - £8.40 for a Waverider - according to the sticker on the box, my Waverider was originally 69/11 (just under £3.50 in decimal coinage).

Pity the "Old Model Boat Kits" site isn't fed with more plans. Like Model shops, when they're gone they're gone. Too many plans have gone to recycling on the demise of many modellers when the executors "Clear the junk"

Hi All

Well back to the Diva .

All the windows are in and I added a smoky perspex window to the top hatch.

Only a cleanup and grease the drive shaft and rudder.

Install the receiver and do a system check ready for the water.

Hi All

The Diva had it's firs run on boxing day in rough water.

It handled it well !!!

The next day I moved the battery back against the rudder post which improved the turning.

With the water calmer and a fully charged battery it has a bit of speed.

The chine and spray rails help also with the turns.

Very happy with the little boat.

Hi Lads
A few pics from todays run.
Not at speed as the stand in driver is not into fast boats !!!
I was on camera.
You will see the mods to the hull with double spray rails and chine rails work well.
It will corner flatout and the bow sits up great nice in the turns.

Looks really good on the water(and off too) Harry and a pretty dry boat to, thanks no doubt to those spray rails.

The overhead video shows it's certainly capable of excellent pace.
