Need help and advice please Transmitter return spring
« on: December 25, 2021, 10:05:38 pm »

Hi all,
I've recently bought myself a new yacht, the radio that came with is useless so i'm using an AbsimaSR2S which works fine except the winch control stick is spring loaded, which as you know isn't very helpful.
My question is how can i disable the " spring "...... i don't want to start taking covers off without some idea of what i'm looking at
Appreciate any advice.
Cheers.

 Hi Mr Dave,

Look on Utube, there may not be a specific video for your radio set, but there are many instructional videos for other sets.
Do a search for: RC removing the throttle spring.

eg: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=radio+-+Removing+the+throttle+spring

Before that, remove the back of your Tx and have a very close look, take macro photos if you can, many of the gimbals are commen to different sets!

HI mr dave it is not a matter of just removing the spring you will need to fit a ratchet on the channel you wish to convert. With out this the stick will flop about hope this helps

I suppose that I might have been lucky with my sets - just disconnecting the spring and taping it out of the way left a stick that still had enough residual friction to be very workable.  This was back in the 27MHz Hitec and Acoms days.  My low-end 2G4 sets so far have had ratchets, fine for sails but a PITA for motored boats, especially those with ESCs that insist on waking up to exactly the right neutral signal.

Back in the old days, there was a set of pictures in a magazine showing the transmitter of a Mr G Bantock.  (Multiple world champion, if it was good enough for him....)  It was a sprung type, but had been fitted with a notched swivel plate that preset 4 positions for the throttle stick.  That's all that is really needed for a sail boat, minor tweaks can be done with the trim slider.

Hi I was trying to work out how to ratchet a second channel and in the end I used a felt pressure washer.  I dissembled the up/down part of the gimbal and inserted the extra washer and removed the centring spring and the ratchet effect works well.

This was a very old Acoms 4 ch. 27 Mhtz AM set so not many spares available but luckily I had 3 off 4ch. matching rx's. for the job I wanted to do.
