Amen  :-)) Look on the bright side carl, the other side will allow you to show potential customers what the railings are made of and how you did it.

I've only just found this thread about the Norland, thanks to your link on the Suilven thread.

Lots of nostalgia for me there, I spent hours aboard the Norland yo-yoing back and forth across the North Sea from Hull to Rotterdam in the late 70s and early 80s. The 'all you can eat' breakfasts and dinners were a high point.  :-) :-))

To bring this thread up to date.
Norland still belongs to Carl of Link Span Models.
To help Carl out I am Finnishing of Norland .
1st job was to build a box for her that would double up as an exibithion platform etc.

space was cleared in the work shop ,ie Finnjet was moved to a shelf to clear space for Norland .

The main task is get the hand rails done. There is lots to do. All of port side and some at the stern and bow.
After that lifeboats and deck fittings etc and genral finishing off.
I solder up these hand rails. They solder very well. The posts need a bit more heat than brass posts, but the nickle sliver is stronger.
The rear were it gos from 4 bar vetical to 5 bar slope was intresting to do.
So far on the side I done funnel deck A deck working on B deck . They are in white primer at the moment. Once they are all made they will be removed and sprayed gloss white. They glue din to place .
I will try and keep this updated. The main updates is on Facebook .

Looks good and an interesting bit of handrail work!  Envious of your green decks -do you spray them?  They look exactly same colour as krylon green.  Curious as to what that little saltire badge and adjacent abrail badge are -I can't get the two to match so far LoL?  Also the little framed pic of 6 Terrier's (?) in the background.

Hi
Sorry not 100% sure on the decks as Carl did thoes. It does look like a spray paint finish .

The Soctish flag as my old dogs name tag. Abrail was when I attened the Abingdon model rail show in 2012 as an exibitor. There is a picture on the wall of 6 little steam locs. They are diffrent class  and one is a Terrier.

I believe the green colour used for the deck is Humbrol Matt 30 Dark Green. I have one of the production kits and I’m sure the colour call out is for the Humbrol 30 colour.
I’ll be restarting my Norland build very soon :-))

Nick is right - Humbrol Matt 30 is my 'go to' green for commercial ship decks.

Always applied with a flat brush - not got the hang of an airbrush yet........but getting there!!

I'm SO tempted by the Norland kit.  :-))

Goodness knows how many times I sailed across the North Sea aboard her in the 80s-90s.
