It's Dodgy down under!

Hi to anyone interested, 2024 now and have ticket, visa and travel insurance and am off on the 29th. Feb.
I did go to Oz last year as well. About 5 weeks before I was due to travel, I had one of those senior moments and passed out when climbing some stairs. I was fortunate as I passed out on the flat part at the turn of the flight. Got carted off to hospital loads of tests and the next day had a pace-maker fitted. Apparently I had a heart stop, not an attack or stroke!
So the flight was just outside my 'do nothing for 4 weeks' restriction and I travelled with 'assistance' to Oz. It was really well handled and so much easier. This time, travel was a Qantas A380 but they had all been refurbished with, believe it or not, Dreamliner seats etc. I think they knew the seat squabs were inadequate as suddenly the pillows have got much larger and I sat on mine, much more comfortable!
However within 6 weeks I was in hospital at Gosford having twisted my right knee and the swelling was very painful, eventually they drained 80ccs of fluid but even now it still hurts.
So I had an immediate comparison of Medicare and NHS, if you are ill not much in it ,but Medicare just comes out on top. Communication, the Gosford hospital very poor whereas with NHS I had an update every 40 minutes or so. Food, Gosford, do not have anything cooked, it is truly awful! NHS the food was actually quite good!
So had the return journey with assistance and that was very good, especially when you are wheeled past 3 jumbo loads of travellers waiting to go through security.
So it was with trepidation last month when I rang up for travel insurance, but it was just a £100 loading on my insurance, this covers 12 months. I am booked with assistance again, so fingers crossed, but have good expectations.
I will have to be re-acquainted with helping to run our son's model railway, chips in all the engines, it has been re-modelled but it is always interesting. Last year they had just bought an inflatable sail board but you can sit on it very comfortably with the extra fittings and I used it a lot as a canoe.
So I am currently trying to get as fit as possible to make sure I enjoy it all, as you never know which visit will be your final one!
Regards
Roy

Hullo Roy....do you fly out from Heathrow, or Gatwick?...is Luyton open after that diesel Range Rover burnt down the multi-story carpark {-) with 4000 motor vehicles destroyed >>:-( ...and what is the Carrier, or do you people call the the Courier?
We sincerely hope you do not need to experience that uncooked food >>:-( from Gosford hospital again [ever], or are you sure it wasn't one of those Asian rolled-up slithers of uncooked Tuna stuffed with naturally salty uncooked Sea-Weed dishes? {-)
On this morning's News, it is reported that a bout of Genital Syphilis is spreading like wildfire, but thats OK as it is on the Gold Coast & that is in Queensland or over the Border :P ...so what plans have been made for this 2024 visit?
Just by coincidence, one year ago today, I was discharged from the Wollongong Public Hospital [9 night stay - collapsed with AKI, and hyperkalemia], and whilst the food was cooked, it would rate only as about 0.0000001 of a Star {-) in that Michelin Tyre rating......
Safe & enjoyable flight for the 29th

Hello Derek I think hospital is now part of life!
The food I refered to was cooked. I had roast lamb with mint gravy and green vegetables. It was a pool of diluted mashed potato the meat was tasteless and the gravy was about to congeal! I should have had a salad. I did have a so-so sandwich on the first day.
Decided to think of the experience as a visit to a health spa where the food is minimal.
On the Tripadvisor thing you can comment using 1 - 5 stars. I want a Zilch button as dealing with my energy supply company is dreadful. Even when I gave them 1 star they had a stock response to all the other 1 stars, yet for some reason they rate 4 stars as a company.
I expect I shall have an email soon from Qantas offering me an auction to go into business class starting at £1000! One way.
The Oz dollar has dropped in value compared to GBP. I got dollars at 55.5p each exchange this morning, last year this time it was worth 64p, so it is spend, spend, spend!!!!
The Luton airport fire of the car park cost £85M Apparently the developer decided to save £200K by NOT installing the sprinkler system. It was a diesel car that started the fire. Expectations were it was an electric car as 3 ships have gone down transporting electric cars, The cars would be covered by the fire and theft part of comprehensive insurance. However I would feel that the airport parking insurance should pay as otherwise the NCD is affected on your own car insurance.
Where as Comprehensive cover used to be a premium price that is the first cover offered now.
Link below is to a current fire in a ship called Freemantle Highway adrift off the Dutch coast. First info says it started in an electric car.

One of the ladies in my Bridge class lost her car in the fire, I will ask her what the out come was.
Not heard much in the media other than that.
Not made any plans I wiil fall in with son if they have something planned. They have just had her dad for a month, he is hard work! so they might be ready for a holiday I expect I shall be doing a lot of dog walking though. I normally come back much fitter and more healthy so fingers crossed.
Best regards
Roy

The Freemantle Highway incident was about 6 months ago she was recovered after the fire was doused and taken to Holland. The cargo was a bit the worse for wear and probably needed a dust off after unloading.

Thanks Baldrick I thought I was reading a current bit of news!
